How about we just ban UK and let the rest of us go back to living.
I am sure all the Big Pharma will frighten us more to make the billions they planned on.
Meanwhile the Chinese are preparing their next biological attack on the world.
They have seen this one is a roaring success.
Maybe if they cripple jobs they can succeed in poorer people being only able to afford their cheap crap.
CV19 does not know borders, it's just looking for a host.

The UK is now learning how "autonomy" works on an island.
Politicians sold lies to the sheep.
Strange how autonomy only in regard to the EU was focused on.

UK autonomy in regard to China and the US was never mentioned.
Alone the UK's geographical location should have been a clue to those with a modicum of intellect.

With flights, international mass travel even the Island is helpless in regard to pandemics and supply chains.
It's doubtful that people will learn.

The DR will have to determine what effect unrestricted travel from the US to the DR has had, vis-à-vis the covid virus.

I just love it when they stand next to each other, talking and sharing a beer without masks...

And proud of their "independence"

If you are not following the protocols, there is always a chance that you will have an encounter with the authorities. What comes of that encounter is unclear as some seem to get away with it but every now and then you hear of someone who doesn't.
Here in Sosua now. Great time last night. Had dinner and drinks surrounded at least 50 other people from half a dozen different countries. No one wore a mask. To those of you who have a problem with it, tough shit, too bad so sad, the over whelming majority of adults up here are not interested in being told how to live. I would post the pictures I took for my friends back home but with all the fear mongering and money grabs happening as of late, I'll have to pass.

You do not need to break "protocols" to have a run in with the authorities in this country. Anyone who's lived here for any amount of time knows the drill. PN hitting ya up for money is normal. Happens all day every day. All the "protocols" have done is created a situation where they can now hit ya up for a lot more.

You should do a little digging and find out who's bank account those funds are going to.

Rice and beans for thee but not for me.....
as I have a pension, retirement and my investments. I could care less if the children down here ever get a shot at a real education or which of these Dominicans lives are destroyed by these restrictions. Not my problem and I hope they continue with this curfew until my selfish ass (who knows what is best for everyone) dies a slow miserable death.

What a difference a day makes. The new variant is more infectious, children are more susceptible to it, and it’s now in other countries in Europe. Some scientists think the current vaccines will be effective against the variant. Closing airports now is akin to bolting the barn door after the horse has escaped. Saying it isn’t in North America or the Caribbean is whistling in the dark. If it isn’t, which I highly doubt, it’s just a matter of time. Think back to the first signs of Covid in the DR last Spring. Tourists from Spain staying in the LaRomana area were the first to test positive for the virus, if memory serves me correctly. Tourists from Britain and Europe have been using the Madrid- Santo Domingo route since tourism opened in early Fall. Other British tourists have been coming in through Punta Cana. The spread of the variant is inevitable. Protection protocols and quick access to the vaccines just got a lot sweeter.

Too little too late. Tourists from Britain have been coming in though Spain for while, passing though DR airports where there are no testing requirements. Even if they were tested, the tests would show positive or negative, not a specific mutated virus. Canada has shut it airports to UK visitors for 72 hours until the WHO and CDC get better information on the mutated virus. British flights are still allowed to transit through Canada as long as deplaning is not required. Hopefully the UK tourists currently in the DR have been adhering to the proper Covid prevention protocols. Otherwise, I’m sure most people here are familiar with the expression shite through a goose. If the mutation is in the DR and it is a super spreader, expect that effect.

Travel has picked up at Dominican airports. Thousands of Dominicans are traveling and more people are arriving. Airports are meeting the challenge of Covid-19 health protocols in peak travel times. The Tourism Cabinet met and agreed on a series of measures taken to ensure Dominican and foreign travelers’ safety during the peak time of the Christmas holidays. Public Health Minister Plutarco Arias said the measures to keep the health of the Dominican people

Tourism Minister David Collado says that 160,000 persons have arrived with foreign passports this month. He said the new measures are to ensure the health of Dominicans and the safety of all travelers and airport staff.

There will be restrictions in the numbers of persons allowed to receive arriving passengers at the airport. Military will be limiting to two persons per vehicle travel on the Las Americas Airport Route 66 entry road.

Las Americas International is adding two more parking payment machines to expedite the...

Who's in danger?
Sounds like more of the same old fear
mongering to me so please be specific or stop making stuff up.
Covid can kill.

The public hospital there are atrocious, and have nowhere near the proper facilities.

Every time you come into contact with someone not wearing a mask, there's a chance you could be getting or spreading infection.

This is basic first aid level knowledge. The problem isn't that your ignorant of the issue, it's that you don't give a damn, so long as you can have your fun.

And, your "fun" puts others as risk as well as fully delays the overall recovery of an area, so it becomes safe enough for general tourism.

You don't get it, do you? You complain constantly about how "Covid fear" is hindering tourism. True, but "covid ignorance" or "ambivalence" is making it that much worse. People like YOU who ignore the health board recommendations are why tourism is down.

I spend a ton of cash when I go to DR, but I'm not there because people like YOU think covid transmission is funny, and best to be ignored.

So, you can blame China for "not handling it properly," but no blame on this administration? Interesting, particularly because the laissez faire attitude of Americans is part of what's causing the rates of infection in the DR. People thinking passing through customs magically makes them immune then run off and starting breathing all over the hotel and restaurant staff, and whichever chica/tiguere was unlucky enough to catch their eye.

You are, again, totally missing the point. I really couldn't care less about what activities YOU do that harms YOU. Go, be stupid, your life to waste, your "freedom," whatever. My concern is about how that stupidity affects someone else. The waitress who served you that Presidente has a kid at home, who just loves showering affection on his Abuelita, especially at Navidad.

And now, you've put all of them at risk, because you think being a vector and spreader is "liberating."

Again, nobody really cares about what you do with your life. Truly. It's what you're doing that's affecting the lives and well-being of others.

That said, never mind, I guess the Golden Rule is meaningless to you "freedom" seekers.
Which states administration are you blaming Rob, since states are responsible for health and medical responses? The younger generation in almost every country has the same attitude about staying safe and keeping others safe. Of course all the so called leaders breaking their own imposed rules doesn't help with credibility.

Well, I'm not blaming any state in particular, Bob. International travel rules are a federal thing. Personally, I would do as they require in Hawaii for international flights. Anybody who wants to get on a plane to DR (or anywhere else, for that matter) has to submit to a rapid test prior to clearing security, or show proof of a negative test taken three days before the trip.

That would dramatically reduce the numbers of infected people coming to DR and other locations, and make travel much safer for the rest of us. But we don't want to inconvenience travelers on this end, and instead leave it to officials in poor and desperate countries to cobble together whatever preventative measures they can, and hope that too many of their people don't get sick (or worse) so selfish @ss people like some of those in this thread can enjoy their "freedom cerveza" in paradise.

So I open this thread hoping to get a bit of info from people here in the DR about flights being cancelled from the UK.
What do I get. Mindless dribble ranging from ballistic turn on NATO bullets to remnants of bickering on the old OT thread.
If they allowed profanity here I would say something like grow the f**k up.

Time to move on guys. British Airways had a flight from London to PUJ today. Not sure if it had tourists on it or if it was just to pick up Brits. Maybe someone could answer an actual question and let me know.

If your post is not about DR disallowing UK flights, it doesn’t belong in this thread!!

You’re really trying my patience. Some posts deleted, if it continues in this vein, thread will be closed.

Well I'm a resident here so maybe my input has a more direct view of what's on the ground in DR than someone in his ranchette in Arkansas ?
If you are referring to me, I'm a resident here too and am not American either. I did call myself a "regular visitor to DR1", not a "regular visitor to the DR".

They don't always explain themselves
but here's a clue from today's paper
=============

Passengers travelling overseas from England will be required to complete and carry a 'Declaration to Travel' form, starting from Monday.

Airlines, ferry companies and train operators will be legally obliged to explain on their websites that the document must be filled out before travelling. They will then check that passengers have completed the form before they board – individuals who have not done so may not be allowed to join the service they have booked.

Anyone identified by police as trying to travel overseas for reasons that are not currently permitted will be asked to return home and they risk receiving a fixed penalty notice for breaking non-essential travel rules. These fines start at £200 and double for each incident; they can go up to a maximum of £6,400.

This measure is a "necessary step to protect the public and our world-class vaccination programme", Home Secretary Priti Patel told parliament in January; the details, however, were not published until Friday, some 40 days after it was announced.

The form is not required for travel within the UK, to Ireland, to the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, the government's guidance states. Different border rules apply for travel abroad from the devolved administrations.

Foreign holidays are currently prohibited under lockdown legislation, and will not be permitted from England until May 17 – at the earliest. All travellers returning to England are subject to a 10 day quarantine, with arrivals from red-listed countries required to pay up to £1,750 for a stay in a designated hotel.

FYI
Until now - starting Monday - fliers just stated their purpose for their trip

Now, they must fill out a form - in advance -, basically asking for permission to fly/travel internationally

No wonder they canceled the flight......

Didn't the old U.S.S.R have something similar? Sad to see what may very well be the future for us all.

UK is really tough
She might make it if there was a flight -- Cdn Passport, not UK

The Brits are truly in 'LockDown'
