I really hope they get out safely. Then when she returns to the USA I hope she gets a visit from Children's Protective Services.
For the life of me I will never understand why anyone would take a foreign child into that s**t hole of a country.

There are reports that military helicopters from other countries have stop in Dominican airports to refuel. They are heading to Haiti.

If this is the beginning of a foreign military intervention in Haiti, the gangs have their days numbered, IMO.
There are reports that military helicopters from other countries have stop in Dominican airports to refuel..... There are Reports that NOBODY REALLY GIVES A S... ABOUT HAITI AND EVEN LESS ABOUT PEOPLE THAT GO THER TO GET KIDNAPPED. so; NO HELICOPTERS ! NO NOTHING !

I have no words for how ridiculous that is at multiple levels and to put her child at risk over it.
It is more like something she should face prosecution for doing.
And of course you're entitled to your opinion. That doesn't change the fact that her and her hubbie are living their faith. I'm sorry for you that you can't see that.

So Windeguy how about you disclose what it is about the Haitian people that you dislike so much. Clearly you have some kind of problem with them since you seem to have nothing good to say about Haiti or the people of Haiti. And your hate for them and that country perpetuates through every topic on Haiti.

Do you speak english ???? "windeguy" did not say one single negative word about Haiti or it's People. With me it's a totally diferent situation; I think Haiti is a lost cause and it should be walled in and the key should be handed over to God Neptune in the Ocean. Haiti will never be more than a Shithole regardless how many billions the world is throwing at them.

So are you and Windeguy coffee buddies.
I wasn't talking to you but pretty clear both of you share the same views. Always good to know what type of person you are but typically it becomes pretty obvious what you and your types are really all about.
Let him speak for himself

Apparently reading comprehension is something that escapes you since he has post after post after post about his complete disdain for them.

Or perhaps it is something deeper and far more sinister than that. He always seems to have an opinion on pretty much everything so I would be interested to understand what his problem with the people of that side of the island is.

But maybe he needs to spell it out for you to understand.

Anyone that lives in the Dominican Republic should be deeply concerned about what's going on at that side of the island. You might think your safe behind your gated walls of your subdivisions and fortified homes but it's only a matter of time before they take aim at the other side of the island as well. But perhaps you think the DR military and police force will afford you sufficient protection.

Don't think that the kidnappings can't happen on the other side of the island either. You guys have money and that's what they are after

Your last line is a bit harsh but Haiti’s historical past supports what you say, more or less. No one wants a mass exodus of Haitian refugees rolling in on rafts on their shorelines. Its geographical location close to North America will eventually be the motivation for someone to do something at some point. Something along the lines of a long term military intervention, a UN appointed puppet government, and an injection of money to restore basic infrastructure to introduce some measure of peace and security. Nothing as grand or effective as the Marshall Plan to restore Europe after WW2. Something containing elements of that on a much smaller scale, tailored to meet Haitian requirements.

The Haitian problems will never be eliminated until there is a complete cultural change, something that will never happen. The best outside agencies can hope for is a reduction in the violence and some form of stable government to restore basic services.

One of the saving graces for Haiti might be enough peace and order to allow for resource exploration. If significant deposits of marketable resources are found, it could provide a revenue base for the acting government and further exploration. I doubt the rumours of massive oil deposits are true. If they were, they would have been developed decades ago. Other than that, Haiti presently has very little to export to bring in foreign revenues.

The naysayers are wrong. Something will be done.

It is a wonderful thing that there are people in this world that are willing to put forth the effort to hopefully make life a little better for others that are less fortunate.

I agree but that has to be tempered with a reasonable approach for self preservation. One doesn’t walk into the lion’s den with a string of sausages hanging around one’s neck and expect to come away unscathed, god or no god.

I agree they do need to take care in what they are doing but assume they probably were being as careful as they could while still trying to accomplish what they are wanting to be there for. Not bringing god into it since I have no knowledge as to her religious convictions but I do admire their human convictions. It just so happens that many that may seek to do this type of work also happen to have religious beliefs as well.

And many of these missions are financially supported through Christian organizations.

Based on the news that is out there Alix has been doing her thing there for quite some time and sounds like they took her while she was doing the same work she has done since she has been there. Most of these types of kidnappings are done by desperate people who perceive an opportunity at a payday.

One can only hope they realize the error of their ways and release her and her child.

Like they say hindsight is 20 20.

A decent explanation of what might have happened to her

Let’s keep this to the kidnapping please. No bickering, no religion.
Repeating "stupid", and "I have no words for how stupid (religion ) so on and so forth, on a daily basis from one of the estemmed members here is "religion".
Do the TOS of the forum board allow "negative" comments as well or do
disengious comments to stand? As a reminder to those that continue to speak out against others regarding "faith", it is the prime responsibility of the faithful to continue down that path of maintaining faith.
I will continue to post comments like this until the practice of allowing verbal abuse against christians is stopped or you ban me from posting here.
I don't want to appear as augmentative but at the same time I really don't want to look like the damn fool taking part in someone's game playing with the rules.

Of course I expect to this THIS post to be gone real quick. So be it ,as those are the rules, but what about the the dozen direct and indirect posting that have been allowed so far on this tread? Do they stay?

The law of averages says that if you piss against the prevailing winds long enough, eventually you’re going to get wet. This family spent a long time in a war torn city with no security in place to protect them in their office in Port Au Prince. It was just a matter of time before their unwise choices came back to bite them. Faith is a gift and I admire those that have it and use it for altruistic reasons. Blind faith can kill you.

This about a woman and child being kidnapped in Haiti despite repeated warnings by the government of said woman to avoid Haiti for exactly this reason. Having faith that you will be protected by your faith, is if not stupid, is naive. A truism is "The Lord helps those that help themselves". I have no issues with a person making a personal commitment to do something and owning the consequences, but endangering your child is another thing altogether.
