Another storm in the neighborhood

Actually, what Ken says [about advance reporting on any storms coming off Africa and the likes] is our policy at dr1. We will not run a storm alert story in the dr1 daily news until the dr is clearly on its route. Storms are part of life in the Caribbean, like snow blizzards up north.

I think the extra interest this year is because the Pan Am Games are upon us. What kind of weather to expect is on many of our minds.

Furthermore, I admit that the eavesdropping on upcoming storms now possible thanks to the Internet is addictive. I also do revel in the fact that this board has great talent in weather-watching.

Fact is that the DR has gotten one hurricane every 20 years, so the threat is not a big one. And as we explain in our hurricane page, in the unlikely case you are here in one, sit back and enjoy nature's spectacular show.

Here I sit in Sosua without a care in the world about a storm or hurricane. I was here a year or so ago when Cuba got slammed and I didn't miss even one day at the pool. Rained like the dickens at night but who cared.

Now Dolores and the guys on the South coast need to worry more than us North Coast people for sure!

Just a forecast ...

Xanadu, why don't you develop a futures market for it?

What? And have to resign from DR1 like Poindexter did? I don't think so!

P.S.
We got the rain and thunderstorms here at Xanadu right on schedule as posted earlier. Lightning and thunder started about 2AM like clockwork and we've got cool looking little thunderstorms visible all around with occasional cloudbursts here. The other wave is still barrelling along at 25 mph so unless it slows down a little it might be tough for it to ever form a TD even with favorable conditions.

Would you ban priests, popes, etc. from trading because of possible conflict of interest or insider information?

I am Catholic and a Meteorologist so this is OK.

The priests are all too poor and too busy chasing each other and little boys (which also cuts down on the inside tips from the Big Three upstairs).

But, El Papa has the Lire! And he can invest as long as he passes all trade information along to the owner of the board (me) at least one hour before any trade is made.

Maybe we could at least set up a mock peso futures market for DR1'ers, since I'm not aware of anywhere in the world to speculate on peso futures.

It might give people some idea of what exchange rate to expect.

Are you listening Robert and Dolores?

Here is another storm in the neighborhood. The track has it passing north of the DR.

Just for those of us who monitor storms during hurricane season.

Keep in mind the DR has suffered about one hurricane every 20 years, but every year one has to monitor the storms and be prepared.
