From the above scenario, then you may like Santiago.

Traffic can be nightmarish here.
But then public transportation is good, let the other drivers deal with the traffic.

Traffic in Santiago is nothing compared to traffic in Kiev or Moscow ))) And we can go where we need while everybody is at work to avoid the rush hours.

Bunny with a Pool

... i sit at home working all the time ...I talk with my friends mostly via skype even while we lived next door.
So what you think is better in my case to live here on the NC and visit Santiago once a moth or other way around?

Hmm, in that case it doesn't matter much where you live, you are like a 'house potato' (like 'couch potato'; no insult intended).

Ukrainybunny, you need to get out more!

What if i will have a pool in my yard, will i really need to be close to the beach that much?
We have a pool, but the sea is the sea and our kids like the beach. It's more like a family outing.
And as you seem to be money conscious (which I like in women :bunny:) be aware that pool maintenance is not cheap.

A question :
?NOT CHEAP..?: about 3000 DOP per month ( electricity, Cl, and floculant) ????
Bomba 3/4 for a 4x8 pool is OK.

Bomba 3/4 for a 4x8 pool is ok.

3,000 RD$ should be sufficient.

But it depends on many factors:
- cost per kWh;
- algae growth (seasonal change);
- 4x8x ? (depth in meters?);
- 3/4 HP?
- metered water for refill?
- water type (pH);
- usage (heavy / little);
- DIY or a Haitian?
- etc.

I speak some spanish but it is not enough for nice conversation.

After three years in DR? Why not tackle improving your mastery of the language? That should help some with the boredom in the short term and will enhance the quality of your life for as long as you live.

Haha well i speak good enough to get what i want, but i am not looking into making friends with dominicans anyways as we dont have nothing in common and that friendship is just not going to develop. I learn spanish on the go, i understand it very well and sometimes even explain to my dominican esposo when i see he didnt get it right (his first language is english). I just dont see myself making friends with dominican girls. I feel no need to make friends with dominican men either. All my work in in english. I would speak more fluent spanish if i needed to use it.

Perhaps you might move to a Spanish-speaking country someday.
I understand your sarcasm, but really i dont use spanish much since 90% of my time i spend in 4 walls at home and talk only to my hubby in english and to my kid in russian. Dont get me wrong, i read, write and talk in spanish but as i said to have a real talk like you have with a good friend its not enough. Even speaking fluent english i cant speak with engl. friends on the same level as if i would speak with my russian ones. Well language is really something i dont care about when i think about moving to santiago or staying in cab.

Seems like everyone who answered in this thread are living on NC and never moved to STI or live in STI and never lived on NC. Anyone who actually moved?

Seems like no one regretted and moved back to Sosua lol

Honestly you are comparing a tiny beach town with a huge metropolis.. Santiago has INSANE traffic, tons of people on the streets, huge shopping malls, all NA fast food you can desire, great medical care/ schools. Now.. there is something to be said about having the beach 100 meters from your house and only having to drive an hour and a half to get to Santiago if you ever need something. I personally could never live there because of the traffic alone, those carro conchos are going to be the downfall of Santiago one day.. lol

Those carros, guaguas, autobuses, motoconchos and traffic are going to be the downfall of civilization.

I presume one could live anywhere between the two , it doesnt really have to be one or the other
