Anyone know when Claro Fibra will expand beyond Sea Horse?

Rubio check this out about CLARO:

I had CLARO DSL for several years at 5 Mbits/s . That was the fastest speed possible because of my distance from the central station in Cabarete. Then the speed dropped to about 3 Mbits/s and was not reliable. I called CLARO to ask why the speed is not what I pay for. They responded that I am too far from the central station to get 5 Mbits/s. I asked them if they moved the central station and the answer was no. I told them that I had not moved and had been getting 5 Mbits/s for years and only recently did the speed drop. They repeated that I was too far from the central station. You can't fix stupid. The next day I changed to a cable modem with Cable Del Norte.

Cable del Norte has been OK. However, about 2 months ago, something changed on the Cable Del Norte system and now they are blocking some streaming video. Not all streaming video, just a very, very specific kind of streaming video that I cannot even understand how they can isolate from other streaming video, but they do. The technician insisted they did nothing intentional to block such services, but something clearly changed that does block it and others besides myself have also complained. I have tried VPN's to overcome the blockage to no avail.

So I called CLARO, ugh, to see when I can get fiber optic service. They told me in a month or two. The DR equivalent of manana. So, maybe in a couple of months or maybe in a year, who knows, fiber optic service will be available where I am in Cabarete.

Last week I spent a couple days visiting a friend in Perla Marina. His condo is near Cabana Natura, near the beach. It had the worst wifi and cell phone connectivity I have ever experienced. Needed to hang outside the window in the rain to make a cell phone call with my claro, and sitting a few feet from the wifi modem and still very slow useless service. Is this a problem with his building or is this normal for Perla Marina?

ORANGE is probably a better solution for cell phones in that location. As for the Internet, the slow DSL because of the distance to a central station from CLARO and others report how bad Delancer is as the only other alternative. Sounds worse than were I am just a couple of miles east. I can see the ORANGE cell phone tower from my kitchen window (CLARO Cell service sucks here as well) and anxiously await CLARO fiber optic service.

I have the same situation. I am too far from the "cabina". I am limited to 5Mb/s. Once I had it upgraded to 10Mb/s, but then I had intermittence (short cuts, internet would vanish for a minute or two, and then come back).
But 5Mb/s is very stable. I would dream of fiber optic, but I know it won't show up on my doorstep for a very long time...

Hmm... could this be another reason to live in SD or Punta Cana over the North Coast? Some people actually need phones and internet to do work.

FO is available at The Gardens of Lomas Mironas (just after SeaHorse Ranch on the other side of the road going from Sosua to Cabarete) since almost two years now. They get closer to Cabarete by the hour...

Thank you, no. Would never consider - not ever- living in Santo Domingo and I have no reason to consider Punta Cana .

Fiber is just a short distance from me now. CLARO said one or two more months. Manana, I know, Manana.

On another topic, I heard last night that the 24/7 power upgrades are supposed to be done within three months in the Cabarete area. That is according to orders from Edenorte in Santiago.

Do you mean east of Sea Horse Ranch?

in any event, no, the silence on more areas with fiber from Claro is deafening. No news at all.

Fiber finally came to my home, the terminal had been installed since last week, it took me a month of heavy weight lifting for them to approve the "miscellaneous link" as they all additions to project plans once they are rolled out for implementation on the street. I was about 400 meters away from their last fiber multiplexer. The second fiber project in Higuey is now complete and should be available for installation coming the next week. The next, third, so far biggest fiber project is coming to Higuey before year end and should be finished by the end of first trimester of 2018.

100 megs there you come... :)

BTW for 40 and 100 mbps fiber plans in Claro it's cheaper to have a triple play with 400 minutes and Basic TV included than to just have double play with internet and phone, or even standalone internet. Weird math that had been done there, but we are in DR after all.

According to their own website, in Puerto Plata province these places have fiber optic:

Sea Horse Ranch
Lomas Mironas
Torre Alta
Playa Laguna
La Mulata

You can check all the other places in the country with the service:

http://www.claro.com.do/personas/servicios/servicios-hogar/internet/fibra-optica/

They don't say in what areas they are currently working to install the service. Cross your fingers. lol

I call periodically and they tell me they have no idea when they will get to our area between Cabarete center and Sea Horse Ranch. It is a toss up which company is the worst in the DR between CLARO and the EDE's like Edenorte.
