good Sunday morning everyone;

Am here in santiago at the hospital ;

Yesterday my friend caught asthma attack in santiago so I took him to the hospital emergency Room ; I needed to pay hospital bill prior to admisión so I went to ATM in the hospital to get cash out but that ATM did not allow more than $5,000 pesos OUT per….I went to another and the same situation/problem occurred

Does anyone know which Santiago Banks ATM have a higher limit than $5,000 PER withdrawal attempt ?

My USA bank charges me $6.00 usd per transaction while in DR and when ever I need $10,000 Peso or $20,000 pesos I have to do 4 transactions which annoys me NOT to mention it costs me money

So for future reference ; Besides BANCO POPULAR what other ATM allows you to withdrawal more than $10,000 per transaction

Thanks

I have a bank account here. If you're going to be spending any time here, it can make your life much simpler.

Go inside a bank and have the teller take the monies out of your usa account. I go to banreservas and usually withdraw around rd$30000 to pay bills and get me through the month.
Doing that tomorrow

Thanks !

I can get RD$20,000 pesos per transaction from Banco Popular, twice a day. I have an account with them. I don't know if it makes a difference.

It does. I have an account with Banco Santa Cruz and can get 20,000 from them, but I can only get 2,000 per transaction from any of the other banks for some reason(?).

Never had a problem and either has my wife.

We rarely use a credit card in DR because all of ours are foreign. In years past, we used them and they were compromised, and at the time someone here said it happens at the clearing center, not at the place of purchase. Apparently they target international cards. The first 4 numbers reveal the country of origin I’m told. Rey may have heard the same thing.

I know everyone in Mr AE’s family uses their cards for everything because they earn points and never have a problem (Dominican bank cards).

Today at Banco Popular they allowed 5 withdrawals of $20,000.00 each time (normally it is 6) and attached their fees each time.
Can you not just pay the hospital bill directly using your debit card and their Point Of Sale machine and avoid all the withdrawal and associated fees?

I've had many problems with false charges somehow being made to my BHD debit card. I think it was an inside job because I only used it at BHD ATM machines. I haven't had any problems with my Banco Santa Cruz card.

If this still helps, there is Asociacion La Nacional on 27 de Febrero in Santiago... It has previously let me take out at least 30k per transaction... With my US-based card... I did reply on a similar thread a few days ago, so not sure if related, but as I know being in a medical care facility in the DR can be stressful in terms of finance related things, thought to post again...

Too easy. Plus, it doesn't put cash in his pockets.

I'm beginning to think I'm the only one here that doesn't need to walk around with more than 20,000 pesos in my pocket(?).

Big items like the OT of this thread, I just pay with the card itself. Why hassle with all these withdrawals? Plus, if you have people in line behind you at the ATM, It's considered courteous to let them go ahead after one withdrawal. I've paid quite a few hospital bills with my debit card.
