Bahia de las Aguilas

There's a beach in Pedernales (southwest of the country, border with Haiti) called Bahia de las Aguilas and I hear this is the most beautiful place in DR. Two years ago we tried to get there but the road was impassable (and we were on a 4x4 Ford Explorer), does anyone know if the road has be paved or at least made passable. At the time only locals on their motoconchos were risking the steep downhill trek on rugged terrain and all kinds of boulders and rocks making the road not only impassable but dangerous. I would appreciate any information since I don't want to make the trip and find the road blocked again.

You could always rent a boat to get there.

I'm not too crazy about those boats (yolas), especially in the open Caribbean sea, but I guess if it's the only way...

You don't have to go to the open sea as you can take a course hugging the coast. I've never seen Bahia de las Aguilas but I've heard many wonderful things about it. I'm sure that it is not that hard to get to. Did you hear about the Marchena scandel concerning the ownership?
