Against my better judgment on a holiday I went to try to withdrawal 8,000 pesos.
After entering my card and selecting the withdrawal amount the ATM spun for a least a minute saying "Were Counting Your Money"
The money did not come out and the screen said the transaction was canceled. So I crossed the street to BHD and was able to retrieve 8,000 pesos no problem- but of course when I got home, I went online and saw the money was taken from my account Santa Cruz account twice !
This is the second time this has happened to me at the Sosua Banco Santa Cruz ATM - An ATM that is perpetually down, out of money or a screen saying it is out of service.
In the future I will just use my card at BHD, which has yet to make an error.

And last time despite spending an hour and a half trying to get Santa Cruz to refund my money, fraudulently deducted, I was denied.

I said this before. BHD is the best of a poor lot. Banca SC ranks close to BP for ineptness........

During 20 years with BP (Banco Popular) and using their ATMs every week I had a lot of times when their ATM was not able to give me the money, but usually in this case the transaction is reverted automatically in seconds. There was only 3 times when not only the transaction could not be proceeded, but the money were taken from my account and the transaction was not reverted.

It actually can happen to any ATM and any bank someday. But the thing with Popular is that in this case it's very easy to get your money back, you call their number, tell them what ATM was that, they ask you do you confirm that ATM did not give you the money, they say OK, this is your case number, write it down, in a few days it will be resolved. And in a few days money comes back to the account. You don't have to go to the branch, no hassle at all.

Also as a longtime user from Popular, I've always skeptical with their digital services for years, but they have been improving a lot since post-covid.

- Credit card refunds are fast (no more than 3-5 days)
- If I have an issue with CodigoCash at their ATMs they refund immediately
- If I have ATM troubleshootings (which is quite regular on them) they respond immediately

This weekend they were having issues at their ATMs in the Cibao area. I just avoid them and use them the next day.

Not sure if there is a saying for "fool me 3 times"

None of these times it was a problem for me, I just called them and they solved it. All banks and their ATMs have technical problems sometimes, what's important is how fast and easy they are able to fix it.

Sometimes when I pay for something online with a BP credit card, a transaction gets declined by Popular anti-fraud system. It rarely happens, but it happens when their system flags the transaction as suspicious. But if it happens at 3 AM and I call their number printed on the card in the middle of the night, they answer immediately, I say could you please check why my transaction was declined, and they check what happened, fix it and in 15 minutes or less I am able to pay. So they are good at solving problems fast.

One thing for sure is they create a lot of problems. So you are happy calling in the middle of the night so solve them. I am also happy as these problems NEVER happen for me in the first place. BP is the WORST bank in the DR hands down..................

Cabarete
The BSC ATM is probably one of the worst in Sosua. It was even completely down for a couple of weeks just a few weeks ago. My other bank is Scotiabank and the ATM at La Sirena has been down for several weeks now although this may have something to do with the renovations....the Banco Popular ATM there was shut down too. The BSC ATM in Cabarete has never had any issues each time I have used it. The same thing has happened to me with the Sosua BSC ATM machine where the money didn't come out but it did come out of my account but both of these were automatically reverted without me having to do anything. I am contemplating closing my account with BSC as they are terrible. I rarely go inside as I do all my banking online but the odd times I do go inside it takes forever du to the fact that the change guys always take forever!

Banco Santa Cruz told me today they will be replacing their almost non-functioning ATM.
When that occurs I'm not sure but if they don't people will be closing their accounts over the hassles it causes.
The bank told me they have many complaints from customers about the ATM

You use every thread about banks to mention that BP is the worst in DR.... looks like some personal revenge. I can't imagine what could happen to you with them, but it sounds like you were sodomized in their branch at least.

Glen maybe you should follow the thread. No one likes their money disappearing and it just isn't always BSC.
As far as being sodomized, that might be something you're more familiar with than me?
