Well, they are in fact "associated" (meaning common ownership), but that's where it stops. With Scotiabank, though, you do at least get Canadian management, for what it's worth.

That's how most multi-national corporations are.

Each company must adhere to local laws and many times, that means a totally different organization from the original one.

The only equality between the two would be the name and the fact that much of the profits heads for the main headquarter somewhere in the first world.
