Anyone please realte how many floors there are in buildings 2000/3000/4000 at the resort? Which rooms are the best & for what reasons would also be greatly appreciated? TIA
I took the extra step today and returned from a walk from the house to the Barcelo Ocean Village to get the real scoop, and update my previous experiences of the place.
It is part of the Barcelo resort complex of Barcelo?s Villas Bavaro, building nos. 1000 series; Bavaro Village, building nos. 3000 series; and Ocean Village, building nos. 4000 series, they are marketed without all the bells and whistles of its prestigious cousin, the nearby Barcelo Resort and Convention Center. Yet, it is very workable resort. The Ocean Village is the closest to the beach. Its buildings begin with the 4000 series with two or three levels. There are pools and bar within a short walking distance of the rooms. The nearby restaurant is buffet style. The buildings nearest the beach have three levels with interior corridors. The rooms face the sea or the poolside. The sea vista side is wonderful with a direct view of the beach through the palm grove, these rooms can be requested and are at a higher tariff, subject to availability. The poolside view is a lesser value, especially if you desire tranquility from noise and commotion common to those areas. Your access to the buildings from the reception area is by walkways, some are covered and some not.
I also inspected a couple of the rooms, they are CLEAN and do not have the musty smell found is some rooms at other hotels I have encountered and they do not look beat-up. The rooms are about 9? x 12?, with tiled floors, AC, cable, overhead fan, and with a small refrigerator. The bath area comes with tub, shower, and hot/cold water.
There is no formal construction going on at the site, although there are some rooms that are being remodeled/refurbished. Unless you were told this, you would not know it was even happening.
The beach is about the walk of a football field from the Ocean Village buildings closest to the beach. You may opt to walk or wait for the shuttle to bring you there. There is a (beach club) restaurant and bar for your food and beer desires. The beach area is super.
There is entertainment and diversions on the beach and back at the resort complex there is nightly entertainment from the animators.
You can golf nearby at the Melia?s Cocotal Campo de Golf or at night go to their casino or sneak in around 10 pm to see one of their nightly shows. There are plenty of other attractions and recreation in the area.
On a scale of one to ten, with one being the lowest factor, this resort would rate a 7.
Now if you do come here, PM me and we can arrange a get-together
