Mea Culpa!
It was around 2006/2007 when Bartolo started to visit a small Cafe/Restaurant by the name Cafe Rubio in Northern Blvd, Queens.
Alexandra was working on and off at the time there, first as a waitress and also later as Bartender from time to time.
She had a knockout body a the time and attracted men like flies (good for biz).
Later the Cafe opened a wine bar on the read of the location to cater to a tad more affluent clients that now made the rounds, all thanks to Billy Berroa.
It was common to see MLB starts coming and going at the spot all the time. I built a type of showcase wall right by the entrance and continuing all the way to the end wall.
I went to Modell's and other sporting goods shopping for the jersey of all the big name players, all Dominicans, save for Jeter ( what can I say! I' a Yankee fan).
I also purchased a nice magic marker set of several colors, and proceeded to go online hunting for the signatures of the players. I did a good job at it!
First guy to come visit after the wall received the first "autographed" Jerseys, was Lugo.
He notice the ones already there and asked me why wasn't his shirt there??!!
I said bring it now and I'll put you on the prime location!
He walked out to his car outside and brought in his bag. Took out his entire uniform, save for the underwear (and I mean all of it).
He signed all of them and waited patiently for me to put it all in the display (this included the bat, gloves, glasses, ball, belt, spikes, uniform, etc...).
The second one to visit was none other than Big Pappy. He took off to his hotel and came back with his autographed stuff, but asked that I place his gear in the spot taken by Jeter. I certainly complied!
The rest just kept flowing.
Bartolo came with one of the players from the Mets, a PR catcher (Montero If I recall correctly), fat just like him and with a big head.
Alexandra was making the rounds that night and the rest went smooth.
Funny thing was she found his head to be weird but he made he laugh a lot.
The day they hitched, I was at her place she shared with another girl some distance away from the Cafe.
I had to bring her the bath towel to the shower because she left it atop the bed.
We had a long conversation about him and how she felt kind of not really wanting to meet anymore to avoid getting any more close than it was.
I told her she had nothing to lose and not to pay attention that he was married, if she was willing to keep it secret.
I told her to have fun and just enjoy the ride for as long it lasted, given how these guys are frugal with girls.
She relented and decided to dress up to go out with him (who btw was on his way there).
She simply introduced me as a close cousin and almost brother of her family (LOL).
The thing was Colon was really touched by this girl, like in crazy for her.
Went out and got her a hummer right away and had her move to a new place he paid for it all.
She was in panic. She didn't know what to do. Tells me she's not sure of what to do, and I asked her:
Do you love him? = No!
Do you Like him or feel good hanging with him? Yes! He's a very fun person!
I said: So what's the problem? You are not going to marry him! So have fun and don't let others tell you how to carry on!
Well... She did! But I never expected her to tell me later she was pregnant with his baby!
Wow! Knowing her, I knew she would change a lot from then on. I mean this was the kind of girl you pick up to party, not go see a movie with or stay home.
I told her just let him tell you how he wants to proceed and let it be. Either way you'll be ok.
That was years ago, until now.
Maybe some people might think of her as a gold digger or just interest. She is neither.
She never asked him to do something he already hadn't offered to her or done already.
To this moment she filed the legal action without making public her or his name, he did.
You see, Alex was always a party girl, wanting to have fun but if there was one thing that turned her off was money.
She would rather go have fun with a penny an hour clerk from 7/11 she liked than a million dollar a day broker just because he could.
I know for certain that she didn't want her private life exposed and that's exactly what Bartolo just did by letting his name be disclosed with his lawyer.
Later I'll look up my digital album and post a picture of her, at the time this happen and believe you me: She was outstanding!
Makes me wonder if Colon is manipulating her this way to force her to agree to something. Being realistic that her life now is an open book to people and her privacy has ended.
