I would like to know if there is a bauxite industry in the Dr and if so, if there is an aluminum foundry, producing by-products.
I am interested in acquiring hurricane shutters made of good aluminum and with a decorated finish for a caribbean market.
I am also considering shutters made of other material but the metal ones is the #one choice.

No, No and not here

There's bauxite but it is no longer exploited. They used to ship it out of here to Jamaica?? or the US. Can you even imagine an aluminum industry here with the current electrical situation? Just woon't happen.

Venezuela makes most of the aluminum brought into the DR. There is very little additional work don on it. Some painting.

There are plenty of places that will make windows for you. Almos every major city has at least one place.

HB is correct...."Bauxite" materials in Pedernales is now

...shipped to Suriname to the Alcoa plant there. There are small foundries (mom and pop type...but actually do pretty dang good) here but they are working more with cast steel than aluminum. LaRomana has one of the best foundries found in the country. I cannot recall their name right now but once I get it I will post it.

Regards, Dave

Thanks you guys!
Cast steel sounds interesting. What kinds of by products do they have from that? Is this the same material that they make some out door furniture from?

Locally made stuff from foundrys

I have seen cast iron garden furniture, some grates and so forth such as those used in "An?fes" or small cook stoves.

There is local aluminum foundry for things like cookware for rice- "pailas" and spatulas and spoons and a few other odds and ends. Now, where they get their stock, I do not know, probably recycled aluminum doors and windos shutters..as well as scrap from the places that make aluminum ladders and jalosies.

Aluminium Foundry, try Aluminios Romel
There are companies that import and sell alluminum to companies like Induca and ANSA, both of which make doors, windows and other aluminium construction products. I have an architect friend who has installed from both companies and he tells me both are of good quality.
If you need more info, send me a PM, I have a friend in ANSA who can be of assistance.
Good luck!!
