My husband and I will be travelling with three other couples to the Bavaro Beach Palace for a week stay in April. Has anyone been there recently that could write a review or add comments that might be helpful. One of the ladies has diabetes and was wondering if there is medical staff and also wondered about illness at the Bavaro resorts from the water etc... Has anyone experienced problems there? We are so looking forward to our trip to this beautiful country and resort. Thanks for your help.

Help!Canadian Documentation

This isn't really in response to this message but my new message won't work. I am wondering what Canadians experience have been going to the DR without a passport. I know you don't need one anymore....is a birth certificate and driver's license fine? Is there anything else I should have to help get through faster....I've heard it can take longer. Please help as I leave Thursday!

I just got back from Bavaro Beach March 4. There are so many positive comments in the DRI Resort Reviews, that I don't think I could possibly add to it. There is a medical office right off the lobby of the Bavaro Beach so your friend should be in good hands. None of the 4 of us got sick and I'm not aware of anyone at the resort being ill while we were there. It is a fabulous resort and the staff can't do enough to please. It's big enough that there is a lot to keep you entertained, but not so big that you can't walk from one place to another. There are open air tram cars that continually circle the resort, but the walkways are beautiful and I felt much safer there than in my own city. We drank President & Heiniken beer and limited the intake of fruit drinks. The Dominicans seemed to me to be so much poorer than Americans but they were always smiling, singing or dancing (maybe in the big picture, they are richer than us). You've picked a great resort. Have fun!

Are then any drinks offered besides beer? How about international beverages?

This is one of the best values for the dollar in the carribean. I have been to most destinations and find this place to be the most complete. Get into the spirit. Rum is not ho-hum.

Three kinds of beer to choose from and plenty of mixed drinks to quench your thirst. The drinks they make for you are pretty strong so be careful. Palace is a very nice place with so much too do there.
