We are planning a trip to Punta Cana in July 99. We will be booking this week. Question is whether the Bavaro Palace is worth the $370 extra in cost US$ than the Bavaro Beach Hotel? They are both part of the same complex. Anyone been there? I understand that the Palace is nicer and there are extras you get but I don't know what extras and how much nicer?? Would appreciate your help.... Thanks, Bob and Carol

Friends told me it worth the extra specially with the food.(they had been to the Beach before) When they were there, the customers from the Beach, Garden... had to pay an extra $ to have dinner at the Palace.

I stayed at Bavaro Palace last spring. We had planned on staying at the Bavaro Beach, however, when we arrived the Beach hotel was overbooked and everyone on our flight was upgraded to the Palace for free.

I personnally would not pay for the upgrade. The benefits of upgrading are: Slightly nicer rooms (two sinks in the bath instead of one and slightly nicer decor); Pool-side chairs at the Palace are cushioned, the ones at the Beach are not; The Pool area is larger and nicer at the Palace and there is also a swim-up bar; You get bottles of beer at the Palace and tap beer at the Beach; People staying at the Palace can get drinks anywhere, but people at the Beach can't get drinks at the Palace; There is also one restaurant at the Palace that only people staying at the Palace can go to, but only once per week; There are also more "grill" style restaurants on the grounds of the Palace.

I could not tell any difference in the buffets or the "grill" style restaurants in any of the areas. The beach is nice everywhere. My wife and I are already planning on going back. Enjoy.

We have stayed at the Bavaro Beach three times, and although the Palace is a bit nicer, you still have access to almost everything at the Palace without staying there. The additional cost to eat at some of the Palace restaraunts is approx. $8 US (or $10 CAN).

My wife and I have gone with the basic meal plan (breakfast and dinner included) and have paid for (signed to our room) lunch and drinks. We drink mainly soda, water, and juice (occasional wine with dinner) and were able to get through the week for approx. $150 US for the two of us (this was drinks and lunches for the week).

I personally wouldn't pay for the upgrade to the Palace, but it's personal preference I guess.

I hope this helps. If I can help anmymore please feel free to contact me at fpark31479@aol.com

Just returned from the Bavaro Beach on March 4. We drank Presidente and Heiniken beer in bottles all week. If you stay at the Beach, you have the option of eating at any of the other 3 hotels - Golf, Casino & Garden. Just go to the reception area at any time for a white slip-I am told they just want to keep track of which restaurants are being used - no hassle at all. You can drink at any of four resorts but if you're drinking at one other than yours, you simply have to sign the bar slip. Same thing at the discos. No hassle at all in anything you do at the resorts. There must be 11 places to eat besides the Palace. I never stayed at the Palace but from what I could see, I wouldn't spend the extra money. They are all wonderful and you'll enjoy wherever you stay.
