The coordinator for the High Commission for the Prevention of Coronavirus, Presidency Minister Gustavo Montalvo confirmed that beaches will continue open in the Dominican Republic. These had reopened on 1 July 2020. The Civil Defense agency had banned people from visiting beaches in a note issued on Sunday, 19 July. The Civil Defense agency would later roll back the shutdown.

Montalvo says that beachgoers are required to comply with physical distancing protocols. Honestly I think they've struck a good balance here, beaches and parks, outdoor dining/take out, let's people decide on the amount of risk that they're comfortable with.

Not to go off topic, but I never knew cock fighting was legal here. I've seen it a few times, but didn't know it was ok.

Happens all the time in the Off Topic section. Sometimes enters the regular threads. Not the end of the world.

We have already seen that here like elsewhere people are incapable of making the correct choices to curb infection. Therefore allowing them to assume the risk of their decisions has an impact on those who are not making the same choices. The govt and most people have no clue, no plan an just don't care about anyone other than themselves and their immediate family. That last one is questionable.

People will only be contained and have their freedoms diminished for a finite period of time before they make decisions to ignore those restrictions.

I am amazed that people in the DR have been as patient as they have been especially given the lack of success of the measures taken.
Such measures have little chance of any ultimate success. That is something those in the know don't wish to be public knowledge and why they
use the obscure term "flatten the curve".

Now we know-
cockfighting happens (happened) all the time in the OT thread -
and sometimes in the regular threads

Odd ? I have never seen a cockfight

People here have very small restrictions on life, imagine living in China. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ml?ito=push-notification&ci=24413&si=12615649

Do we know the logic behind that edict?
This is about control.
I was told by my contacts
back in June as soon as the elections
were finished they would
be doing more of this and
bringing back the curfew.
How many businesses need
to be permanently closed before
these muppets wake up?

No clue, but I suspect it’s tourism related. Tourists want oceans/beaches when they get off a flight. They might not like to hear only the hotel beaches are open, because that might mean it’s actually not safe to be on a beach. So they open them all.

I’ve been to many, many rivers in DR. South, central, north. Never saw a tourist, only Dominicans. Most one week tourists to DR aren’t looking for rivers.
