Best All-inclusive resort

Hi My husband and I are thinking of returning to the Dominican. We were there in January and loved the people etc. We stayed at the Flamenco Beach Resort and overall were satisfied although we are looking for something even better.

We are looking for an all-inclusive which offers excellent food, a beautiful beach and where we can dance to the Carribean music.

Please let us know if anyone has been to a resort which meets our needs.

Thanks

Melodie

Check out the Resort Database. Was the Flamenco Beach Resort in Puerto Plata? We have recently enjoyed our stays at the Melia Bavaro (Punta Cana) and the Viva Dominicus (La Romana).

Read also the reviews of more than 70 hotels, most of them all-inclusive, on www.debbiesdominicantravel.com.

However, reading reviews can be confusing, as you will surely realise after having read a few. What one person loves, the next one will hate. So if you want a more precise response, you would need to write exactly what kind of food, entertainment etc. is to your liking.

I wish you a nice holiday,

Regards, Susanne

There is no "best". It depends on where you want the emphasis to be. Beach? Food? Service? Value? Pool? Activities? Location? Night life? Outside the resort activities? Queit and peaceful or engergetic?

However, some of the best in most of these catagories have been the Bavaro Palace (US$100/night per person), the Melia Bavaro (US$100/night per person), and Casa de Campo (US$150/night per person). Those are approximate prices. Packages might get you a better deal and some of the properties offer more expensive and deluxe accommodations.

Meli? Bavaro would qualify over Dominicus because it is a bigger hotel and has more facilities. Nevertheless, Dominicus has its charm and lots of distinct plusses.

For instance, the rooms at Meli? are very large, those at Dominicus much smaller. At Dominicus you can get a bungalow, almost across from the beach. You are always a two minute or less walk from the beach. At Meli? you may get a room far from the beach.

The beaches at the two are different, although both are white sand beaches. I would say the Meli? beach is better. But there is more variety of water sports at Dominicus, because of the kind of beach. Also, one is closer to excursions. You are near by to La Romana and Bayahibe.

The food is different, with the food at Dominicus being more Italian style. The food at Meli? is more international. There are also more restaurants to choose from.

Dominicus is more compact, you have to walk less. At the Meli? you need to take the hotel cars to get around.

For capital city dwellers, Dominicus is closer (2-1/2 hours vs. 4 hours).

If you can, visit both.

Re: We stayed at this resort (Meli? Bavaro ) only three weeks ago, and although the hotel itself was nice, the customers and staff treat you as second clsss citizens unless you are of the "elite" groups that are present there (they must base this on the designer luggage and $300 swim suits)

I'm confused. When I stayed there a few months ago, I really didn't have much interaction with the other customers except perhaps a few by the pool and travel agent I met in one of the dining rooms who agreed to let me see his room at the Melia Tropical. But the staff treated me well throughout and they would have had no idea about my income level.

In what way were you treated as 2nd class?

What makes you think that any treatment you received was because you were perceived as NOT part of the elite?

Was there something about you that makes it obvious that you are "not part of the elite"? I would think anybody that can afford to travel to the DR and stay at the Melia is pretty much in the higher income bracket.

What "elite" groups were present during your stay?

Do you representthe resort of the message board"

My issue is with the Resort and I noticed that this question was asking or an opinion.

As this isuues is currently being handled through the travel agency that booked the trip, it would not be of good choice to respond to your questions

Re: Melia Bavaro - Give me the specifics

I don't represent the resort (or any business). I provide information about travel to the Dominican Republic, either through this board or other boards, and via private E-mail, to hundreds of travelers each month, for which I receive no compensation whatsoever. Call it a hobby.

When I hear something bad, I want to know the details and specifics. I pass both the good and the bad information along in the advice I give and I want it to be as accurate as possible. Many people have written me that they appreciate my straight forward manner or that they trust I'll give them the bottom line without sugar coating it.

I can't pass along vague statements such as "we weren't treated well". If you were to say "we ordered wine and it took 30 minutes" or "the waiter stopped at the table two tables over 5 times and never once came to check on us", then that is very specific and can be passed along. Additionally, DR1 picks up complaints about hotels and businesses on this board and whenever possible, forwards the comment to the hotel or business, a constructive service I would think.

Know that your comments will be echoed a thousand times over if they are objective, good or bad alike.

But, if you don't feel comfortable elaborating on the board, feel free to E-mail me. Otherwise, why bother commenting on the board at all?

Re: Melia Bavaro - Give me the specifics

A question was asked regarding an "opinion" ans I answered it (Otherwise, why bother commenting on the board at all? )

There may very well be legal action involved against the travel agency and posting such information that mat be used by attornesy for that agency would be foolish

While I commend you providing information to many travelers, I hope you understand my position. If I were to eamil my exact complaints to you, would you be willing to testify under oath in NYC regarding ANY information you have regarding this property, or your personal experiences there?

Re: Melia Bavaro - Give me the specifics

Get a life and use this board to your advantage or don't post here. I have been fortunate to have founbd DR1 and have founbd all of the comments and replies to be objective. Are you an attornet looking for a fight? If not, take evrything with a grain of salt (or sand) and weigh everything you read with common sense and try to enjoy life without threatening others.

Re: Melia Bavaro - Give me the specifics

I would suggest you read the pertinent articles of this thread rather tha jump in with a verbose post showing ignorance.

A person asked an opinion of two resorts, one which I just returned from. I made some comments, one positive one negative. Another person, with an attitude similar to yours, insisted that I must provide complete details as to why I was unhappy with certain details of my stay.

I then informed him that due to a possible lawsuit regarding that incident, it would be improper to post the details on this board.

Does that satisfy your ignorant uninformed remarK?

Your ignorance precedes you

*********Are you an attornet looking for a fight***********

As for that remark, I am not an attornet (Is that an attorney in training?) looking for a fight, but an aggreived party seeking a resolution to greivance.

Attorneys generally do not "look for fights," but are retained to resolve disputes

I have to agree with Jim. We also have many questions regarding this resort and would like to know some details so our readers can be forewarned if there is a problem. Though I must say our poor 9 yr old luggage has seen many airports and too many luggage handlers and we have never been treated poorly because of this. It is our experience at all inclusive resorts that employees don't care how you dress or what your annual income is!
