Thanks AlterEgo and Mountain. I think we are on the same page. I was referring to things more in hotels, as it seems likely that they would have buffets in hotels. Also, even if I'm not staying at the AI hotel, I don't see why they wouldn't take my money and let me indulge in their buffet.

BTW, this will be like my 5th time to the DR (third time as an adult). Not a first-timer at all. This is however my first time bringing a first timer who speaks no spanish and whose first language is not English, so I'm just trying to make sure things work out well.

ususally an A1 will let you in for the day with all the food and drinks that you want.. for about 1000 pesos. I do not think that there are any A! in Santo Domingo... nor have I heard of any A1 which is reknowned for its cuisine.. usually just quantity over quality

Please do tell where they are and when they serve as I live closer :bunny:

Tuesday: Taco Tuesday at Martini Grill, Cabarete East Condos...Taco/Mexican Bufffet, $350 pesos (haven't been in a while, but that was the price last time I went)

Thursday: Hula Surf Bar (Between Ocean One and Pelican Condos) Basic Buffet is $220 pesos. With grilled chicken, $240, with 2 shish-k-bobs, $300 pesos, you can also get it with pork chops, filet, mero, etc...all at very reasonable prices

Wed. or Thurs. (not sure): Serenade at Villa Taina...Mongolian BBQ Buffet, $550 pesos

Friday: Nikkki Beach...All you can eat Sushi and Oysters, $1000 pesos

Saturday: Tropicoco...BBQ Buffet, $450 pesos

I also saw an ad recently for the restaurant at El Colibri in Sosua...an "Asian Buffet" for 300-400 pesos...not sure which day or if it's still going on or how good it is/was...

I guess I just like the idea of an AI. Its not even about eating soooo much, but I really like the idea of having so many options there.

If there are none of these in Santo Domingo, then what is the nearest area with a worthwhile AI hotel and beach that is NOT Boca Chica or Juan Dolio?

there are plenty of options at the Melia buffet

and very good quality food

but you have to pay for drinks

that would be the only advantage that I could see for going to an A1

nearest A1 to Santo Domingo that is not in Juan Dolio or Boca Chica.. is... well

NOT near Santo Domingo
