My two cents from visiting Sosua since 2008.

If you are on a tight budget I recommend Rocky's, Hotel Plaza Europa or Hotel Don Antonio (WATCH THE BILL AT THE MIDTOWN SOSUA RESTAURANT at Don Antonio, I had a couple bad experiences there with the owner and honesty regarding the bill). Anyone can make a mistake however as often as this owner has done it seems more of a habit than an accident. It is NOT part of the hotel management and it is just as easy to eat somewhere else as there are so many great places to eat like Rocky's and the Britannia.

If you aren't on as much of a tight budget then I also like Sosua Suites Condos as it is in a GREAT location (across from Rockys) but a bit higher in cost. If you don't mind being a little further from the beach then Mary Rose Condos is owned by the same owner as Rocky's. Hope this helps

The Romanoff is old and cheap. They have basic rooms with shower for 800 pesos a night. The owner lives in the hotel. The owners did not change from the time the Romanoff was the very first hotel in Sosua some 25 years ago.

I luv it when people who have been on DR1 for a relatively short time ( 9 years ago in this poster's case ) talk about "the way things were 25 years ago" . Romanoff was definitely not the "first hotel in Sosua some 25 years ago." La Esplanada, Hotel Sosua, Villas Los Coralillos, just to name a few, when we were first here in 1988.

I heard a long time ex-pat recently say "PC was a dirt road " when he came here in the early 90's. Bull - crap .

Lots of hot air in the air

Not sure how 27$ a night gives sticker shock?

If you know Brattleboro vt u would understand. Real multi-generational poverty, poor hippies too lazy or stoned to work and New Yorkers with second homes. Impossible to make a living. People get laid 8 bucks an hour. 12 is considered good money. Can u imagine? God, I am lucky.

My mistake. I misread the rate for the condos as the rooms at Rocky's bungalows. I thought he was charging $75/night now! $75 is a good deal for the condos too. I stayed at a condo at Trade Winds for over six months, but not through Rocky's. $27 a night is a great deal, esp with the breakfast they have.

Otherwise, you're spot on about Brat. I was making $12.50/hour when I left 10 years back at a job I had had for over five years, and I started at $8. On the plus side, my studio, which had a view of the Conn River, was still only $425/month(it was $275 when I moved there in 1998.) I left because there were too many hippies and addicts. Sounds like you've been there.

I liked the Tropix too, but not sure if they are chica friendly. Only about a dozen rooms up the hill from the Police Station in a residential section.

You need to start living in the 21st Century hermano, it's 2015 not 1998!

We are not chica friendly. I am the manageress, and that is and always has been our policy. We're a woman-owned business. and while we pass no judgement on tourists who visit Sosua to sample the whores, we do have an opinion about it. We always recommend other establishments in Sosua with policies different from ours, at the expense of many bookings.

It's not an issue. It's just a choice.
