TETE, nobody mention it, but it?s a nice lounge. were there for few drinks and the place was nice and good atmosphere. didnt try any dishes, so I cant talk about the food. the place is a little pricey.
location: close to The Monument, in calle El Sol.

A few meters past Puerto Madero is a very good Italian Restaurant that just opened a short time ago. It is run by an Italian. He used to be in that mall on Colon just past Hache heading towards La Sirena. Excellent food, I don't even look at a menu, I just ask him to cook for me. Also he has some nice wines.

I have no idea what the name is but you will see it. You have to walk up a few steps to the restaurant.

Yes, that place is excellent. One of the brothers' names is Paolo, but the other escapes me right now.

For a really nice meal:
1) Pez Dorado on Sol St by Altagracia Church (very large portions, food is famous here)
2) Montmart (?) on Calle 2 in the Jardines, in back of Politecnico Femenino, off Texas av.
3) ZOL on 11 St, off of Metropolitana, just by Bon in the Jardines. 11 is a One way St,
4) Pasticcio had received good reviews, also.
5) Nano's, on Benito Juarez in Villa Olga, left side after the ball park-known for its meat
6) La Parrillita, on Juan Pablo Duarte, across from Plaza Internacional.

I have not mentioned Carlos Tasso because last time I went by there it was being renovated.

For me either 1,2 or 3 are most impressive for a date.

HB

Number one = five star restaurant
Number four = excellent Italian food
Number six = Hmmm I would like to be there right now enjoying a delisious churasco 1/2 rare or a solomo...
I've been to Nanos in Villa Olga but never had food there just some pequenas bien frias...

Do you have an updated list? What are the best places now?

Seems ZOL is closed.

Would you add Pedro's?
Calle 6 #18 | Los jardines Metropolitanos, Santiago, Dominican Republic

Thanks

I got a surprise a couple years ago when I found out that the venerable Pez Dorado was owned run by Chinese Dominicans! Anybody gone to Tony Romas? Is it open? I think if the lady in mind is American Camp David and if she is Dominican either Camp David or one of the chains Fridays, Chilis etc.

Updated list:
Scratch ZOL and Montmart
Add Pedro's
Add Macao Grill (Metropolitana corner of Republic (NOT Reparto!!) del L?bano, formerly Calle 9) Los Jardines. Cheap but good food for the pesos. Specials every day. Wednesdays 2 hamburgers and a coke for RD$100....Pizzas are pretty good.

I can vouch for Macao being very good and you can smoke cigars on the deck outside! I am not surprised nobody suggested Centro Marisco as the price is too high and the quality low in my opinion.

Amici's definitely wouldn't make my top 5 in Los Jardines, let alone in Santiago...overrated and overpriced, with possibly the slowest service in town, IMO....not bad, just not that great...for really good Italian food with great atmosphere, I'd chose Pasticcio's, or also in Los Jardines, Il Toscano, over Amici's any day....

For great value, usually lively atmosphere (outdoors), and good food, I'd add Zokalo Mexican...in Plaza H2O, maybe not in the "best of Santiago" category, but one of my favorites.

For real "High-End" dining, I'd choose Tete Club (Calle Sol, near Monument), Satay (Av. 27 de Febrero), Pedro's (Los Jardines) or La Marquezzina de Paparazzo (Just off Jon Pablo Duarte). For cool and trendy, I'd choose Front Door (Los Jardines).

And my choice for best Full Menu Chinese restaurant (food, decor, service) is Super Rico at the end of John Pablo Duarte. There are several surprisingly good Chinese restaurants in Santiago though...

New place across from Clinica Corominas, real good food. You still have to guide them though. I dont like mayonaisse or ketchup on my cheeseburger but the plate of the day specials are real good.
Its is called Ya Pesto. It has little bistro ambience and a limited menu. But thats good...less things for them to mess up.

Whaaaaaaaaaaat????????...why??.. they had a solid clientele despite of the overpriced food.....and i too like Amici joejamchicago, when they were at "La Plaza", i used to go a lot, of course, with my big sister paying.hahaha...one of my favorites right now is "Kasaby" right in front of "La epoca" building in los Jardines, small but really trendy and one of the very few were the pricing actually matches the quality of the food.
