Best in terms of a lot of shoppers, as an example - Mega Centro
is one of the busiest I have seen in DR. -I ask because I'm planning
on moving to DR and start a business venture which can only succeed
in a mall setting (high traffic), I would appreciate the input from the
forum members. I have seen Acropolis which is a more upscale mall, but
really not as much shoppers...Thanks for the input.

"Demographics", my man, "Demographics"???????????????????????????
To whom, and What, do you intend to sell?
You can sell one "Widget" for a million dollars to a millionair and make 500,000 dollars, OR, you can sell a million "Widgets" to a million people for a dollar, and still make 500,000 dollars!
But not likely in the same venue.

Oh come on . . . the man's asking a simple question --- about shopping malls: Best in terms of a lot of shoppers.

Why go off on a tangent? Is it just to demonstrate that you have a grasp of it all --- to show off?

I kinda' expected better of a moderator.

My question was about foot traffic, not wallet size and I even
included Acropolis (upscale) in the over all question, and then re-emphasized
"NOT AS MUCH SHOPPERS". If I need guidance on profit margins I will
come back here and hope a "moderator" does not reply; with how many
Chinese men does it take to install a light bulb? any one else care to weigh-in??((please))

Step back a moment

Why the biting comments, from you and the OP, step back a moment.

Criss has it right. The original poster is looking for assistance and for us forum members to help may require the additional information about demographics. A mall may be the wrong choice to set up shop if the OP is selling donkeys and donkey karts. What one is selling has an impact on the choice of point sale location.

Plaza Central and Mega Centro are probably the malls with highest traffic. Sambil aims at that but I doubt they will be very successful.

Agora is upscale but has much more traffic than Acropolis or BlueMall.

At the moment, I think Agora has the best traffic-to-actual-shopping ratio. In the near future I think Sambil is going to take over.

With your negative attitude, you are doomed to FAIL!
You asked for comments, I gave mine.
No need to comment, on my comment.
Better to just ignore me, and move on.
If you only want to see comments that support your "PLAN" just say THAT!
Want to see some constructive criticism, then don't ignor it.
"Best Of Luck" in your future "Fantasy Island Business", that is the only thing that can save youCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

Plaza Central is certainly "old faithful", but nowhere near the traffic as Megacentro, IMHO. Plaza Central is struggling to survive.

I think Plaza Central is struggling because their installations are very high maintenance, their traffic is very good (although it might very well be that Megacentro is a lot better), but their old escalators and air conditioning and 'emergency' generator is killing them. Add bad management to that and the result is an non-attractive shopping mall, but still the amount of visitors amazes me every time I come there.

?Fitting selection?

GeoMed

It would help us and yourself if you inform us what is your business venture. Up to this point what you have provided is obscured, vague to say the least  . The type of business will have an impact on the more fitting selection of location.

Santo Domingo - Agora Mall (Sambil will overtake Agora once all the stores are open. Every month since it inaugurated -Oct/Nov 2012- new stores have been opening in Sambil. During the last week the first and only Reebok store in the country opened. There are still many stores under construction and will be opening in the next few months. Also, the aquarium hasn't opened yet. While many people are already claiming that there's no need for another aquarium, I think Sambil has something different and more exciting than anything that exist in the country and will become a hit.)

Santo Domingo Este - Megacentro (A new large mall is in the works for this city, but it will be near the Las Americas highway. There's a render on Youtube. If I find it, I will post it here.)

Santiago - Colinas Mall

Bavaro - San Juan Shopping Center (despite the tourist nature of the area, most visitors are actually local residents.)

This is the new mall in the works for Santo Domingo Este. To me it seems promising considering the location and the anchor stores, which tend to not be present in other shopping centers. Its also much more convenient to shop in a mall than on street stores considering the heat, traffic, crime risk, etc.:

The investors are Hondurans of Middle Eastern descent and are sort of developing a chain of City Malls through out Latin America. There's one in Honduras that opened not too long ago (I think its in Tegucigalpa.)

what is the tangent there? those are perfectly appropriate questions, and observations, and constitute the fundamentals of marketing. maybe not all malls are the same. maybe the ones in the DR have variations, insofar as the people to whom they cater. if that remains an unknown in the equation, how will the vendor know how much of his product he can expect to sell?

what is the point of foot traffic count, if the traffic in one mall consists of far more window shoppers than the traffic in another mall?

Because in the DR (unlike from where you come from) foot traffic is not the same!
Here shoppers visit the mall to shop with intent, there they would visit the mall to cruise and spend sometime away from home and chores.

It's a given fact!

So, Pichardo.......how do those shoppers that "shop with intent" do it without bags.

I visited three malls in Santo Domingo and Santiago just prior to Christmas. While there was decent foot traffic, the thing that I noticed most in all three malls was the lack of shoppers with bags....but every food court was busy.

Be careful selecting a Mall based only on foot traffic. Over the years the good tenants and therefore many customers move from the old and on to the new. Unlike most 1st world cities where there is a long term city plan and a limit on certain types of businesses allowed in certain sectors. SD, you can buy a property right next to Acropolis and build a new Mall (like Blue Mall)steal their tenents and business, what seemed like a good investment last year not so much this year.
In 5 years I believe we went from Plaza Central and Acropolis in the city center to probably 4-5 new ones.
Demographics of the desired shopper as it realtes to your product is very important peice of this process.
