Best way to go from Cabarete/Sosua to Punta Cana now when Carretera Turistica is ready?

Anyone else knows anything about the new highway? Very glad, drstock, to hear that it is being worked on as I haven't heard anything in the news since the initial flurry.

Can one get the quickest route option on Google maps? All I've seen is the shortest distance routes which many times are not the quickest by far.

Do not even think about anything on google maps in the DR as being the quickest route. It could only be by luck. They can send you on streets that are half closed. Take main arteries.

Personally, I would still use the route through Nagua, and Google Maps agrees with me that it is quicker from Cabarete. I do the trip to San Pedro de Macoris quite often and have always found this route best.

I was talking to a Dominican architect the other day, and he is working on the new Autopista which is due to go from Puerto Plata area to Santiago. It sounds like a hell of a project, with no turn-offs - just a direct run from the north coast to the Santiago by-pass, going through two tunnels. He says it will be done in 2-3 years. Now when that's done, the route via Santiago may be better.

leaving a little further NW (Puerto Plata), The Nagua route would bring me to the pay highway , that I can then break off to the left and head to las terrenas. Just verifying by committee 😏

Correct. That is the best way and maybe the only way to get from PP to LT.

Keep going past the entry to the toll road and watch after the airport on the left for LT hiway
