Wondering which route would be less traffic headache to Jarabacoa , from sosua/cabarete area.

1) Going via Santiago - Highway #5 to highway #25 to Highway #1 to Highway #28

2)Going Via Sabaneta - Moca - Hwy5 - Hwy21 - Hwy 1 to Hwy 28

Any thoughts on which is a better route , not in a rush but last thing I want is to be stuck in traffic.

I would go via Santiago on hwy #25. It won't take you any longer and it's a much better ride than Highway #21. A lot of potholes and rough surface on #21.

I agree on the previous post. But if you have never taken the Moca road you are missing out on a spectacular place to eat on top of the mountain with a great view. Sometimes even above the clouds. I have not been in years so I am not current with the restaurants. There were always two right near each other. The lower one I preferred. Don't remember the name though.

Just a thought if you have time...............

Thanks to both of you , Moca looks to be more of a scenic route. Which is more what I want but shall investigate both more

Yes, Molino's and Cafetto. Cafetto is the lower one and I think has even more spectacular views. Too bad it's such a rough ride to get there.

It is more scenic, but if you're driving, you'll be too busy going around curves and dodging potholes to enjoy it much. The passengers will like it though.

I went through there in November and didn't find it bad at all.

Sky is bang on. We ate at both of those restaurants years ago. I'm not sure if they are both still there or if the food is any good these days. Even if the food is mediocre the views and a cold beer a well worth the stop

I agree. I always stop at La Cumbre Restaurant (right above Molina) and have a couple of cappuccinos with a cigar.

That's strange(?). I think that's the same month I went to Santiago. On the Sabaneta side there are some smooth stretches, but there were numerous very rough, short sections where I had to slow down to 5mph. Potholes aren't everywhere, but there are some real tire and rim busters if you aren't looking. On the Moca side the are 3or 4 "desniveles" and about 6 trenches that were dug across the road for drainage that were never paved over, just filled with coliche, that cause you to slow down to 5mph or less. They've been promising to repave that road for at least 5 years now.

Maybe you have a big SUV? I'm driving a Camry.

Going to follow your suggestion and plan out for that stop there. @cavok - i only rent SUV's when there and I bring my dash came, thus no one is telling I hit them or etc. or really asking me for money instead of writing me the ticket :)

I love the Moca Road #21 and El Caffeto (Molina is overpriced) but the road is really rough after the rain (drove it a week ago). With SUV you are fine. Carretera Turistica #25 is super smooth and yeah have a stop at Camp David. Just a 15min extra drive. Pricey, but a beer/coffee... The view is worth it. And yes, why not do them both? One on the way there, one on the way back

Having been to both Camp David and the Moca restaurants I can say that the view in Moca is way better than Camp David. And the food at Camp David was not very good the times I was there. But this was many years ago and might have well changed. But the view will not change.......

If you want to go to Camp David it would be best to take the Tourista Rd. at Montellano as you would pass right by Camp David. And people on the North Coast would know better, but it could be a better way go go anyway as it has been fixed a lot lately. But I would defer on this to someone that has taken it lately.

I have been to and stayed at Camp David many times (lost count) but a few years ago they did away with the big "balcony rooms" (4,5,6,7) that were above the kitchen/conference room. Kinda ruined it for me.

You should become a " trip advisor" , excellent recommendation, and think it is what i will do as you suggest and take both.
