Biden receives Abinader at the White House; DR to host Summit of the Americas in 2025

United States President Joe Biden held an hours-long conversation with his Dominican counterpart, President Luis Abinader on Thursday, 2 November 2023. The main topic was bilateral relations with the Dominican Republic’s largest commercial partner. Issues such as corruption, drug trafficking and the crisis in Haiti were also touched upon.

Biden said that relations have never been so good. Abinader invited Biden to come to Punta Cana in 2025 for the Summit of the Americas. Biden had visited the Dominican Republic as Vice President in 2014 during the Clinton administration and the Danilo Medina presidency. He was the first US Vice President to do so in an official capacity.
