Wayne, get out while your new "Nick Name" isn't "Lefty"!
A "Re Do" is more complicated, and has a higher incidence of infection than the first procedure!

Sounds like a must stay, if that's the new looney bin floor sign me up quick! I'll be waiting in my Straitjacket ;) I like Plaza Salud in Santo Domingo, sounds like a great place too..

In the last few months, I was there both as a patient and with a friend who was seriously injured.
I love that place! Both times they (administration, doctors, nurses, facility, attitude, caring) were great.
PS
I was given a tour of the 3rd floor that is being built. It is going to be beautiful with high end suites, a new intensive care facility...very upscale ...with magnificent ocean views.

I was put to sleep for the procedure, which was supposed to be a plate installed, doctor decided to set it instead. After further review of x-rays he has decided I need the plate but wants to leave the cast on a few weeks before doing the procedure.

please consider checking with a doctor in santiago or SD. you were put under but not operated. anesthesia is not to be taken lightly.

Is there going to be an Infinity Pool on the roof top patio?

I was treated and received stitches at CMC after a horrible early morning bedroom accident. I was extremely pleased with the service, cleanliness & pricing. I would definitely take my business there again. And I will be stopping by soon for my tour of the 3rd floor.

I had a similar experience at a hospital in Puerto Plata. They used general anesthesia to set a fractured wrist, which needed to be re-set, under general anesthesia again, ten days later. Then they decided that the cast was too tight and I was going to need surgery to insert plates and screws - under general anesthesia a third time.

I made them crack the cast and flew to the US to have it done by an orthopedist I knew who was a hand surgeon.

The billing department of the hospital had a great time billing my US insurance for the two attempts to reduce the fracture - over eleven thousand dollars!

Thanks for the advice. I am going to get a second opinion this week.

I was considering going back to Canada but unfortunately you lose your health insurance after a 6 month absence from the country.

I will give a Thumbs up to unless she dies bc they misdiagnosed her again, then i will have to go with a thumbs down :)

Went there with swollen feet from bacterial infection from walking in Rio Blanco ( Jamao ). Was told i tore tendons in my feet and was given a few shots. A week later turned into Cellulitis. Went to the Municipal Hospital in Jamao Al Norte ( free ) and 20 minutes later given a script for antibiotics. In defense of CMC it came to 2,213RD including the 500RD for the doctor.

Actually before i went to CMC the lady at the farmacia told me i needed antibiotics. A week later i got the " I told you so ". In the week in between Vicks was used in many different ways to try to reduce the swelling and itching. The best was oatmeal mixed with Vicks applied to the feet.

The hospital that "treated" my wrist fracture was Bournigal. Enough said?

There is a decent orthopedist, Dr. Miranda, at Clinica Brugal, but dv8 is right - best to go to Santiago or Santo Domingo.

I had an accident last December. Broke my wrist and several other injuries. They set a cast and a month later I was in Canada having it checked out. They said it was looking good, removed the cast and replaced it with a removable support. Its now 4 months and still a little sore but getting better all the time. So I say good work.
One the other hand my wife was in the same accident and broke her hand and was cast. 6 weeks later replaced with a different style cast by the same doctor. A month ago we went to different doctor at another clinic. Again different cast. Today we return and he says its healing but it needs more time.
Total costs to date for medical treatment about 25000 pesos out of pocket.
we are in Santiago and it just shows that all injuries are different, heal differently and the doctors all have different ways of doing the same thing. Some more successful than others.
Good luck with the wrist

By the way Ontarians can be out for seven months, was changed a year or two ago.

I took everyone's advice and went to see an orthopedic surgeon in Santiago. He had to cut the cast open due to severe swelling and told me one more day like this and I would have had problems. They x-rayed the wrist and it ends up I had broken the radius bone slightly below the wrist. The doctor said CMC did a good job resetting the bone and he felt no surgery was necessary. I have to let the swelling go down over the next few days and return to Santiago to have a new cast put on.

Thank you to everyone for the concern and advice.

A family member had a life threatening illness this winter and was treated successfully at CMC over the course of 10 days. It was a rare disease and they were in daily consultation with specialists in the U.S. They did everything correctly at each step and we are so relieved.

2 years ago I had a wrong diagnosis from a doctor at HOMS that caused me to rush back to Canada but luckily they were wrong and it was not the dire situation that I was told it was. So I don't think you can say that HOMS is the best but it depends on the doctor in charge of your case. I think you could get lost at HOMS and be out of luck if you had a less than perfect doctor. At CMC there was consultation among all the doctors for the most serious cases.

It all depends on the doctor that is seeing you. A friend (Dominican) with abdominal pain went to HOMS and they sent him home with a painkiller. The next day the pain increased even more and he went to another hospital, the diagnosis: burst appendix, - a few more hours and he could die. Turns out at HOMS he was treated by an inexperienced first or second year residency med student who should have consulted a more senior doctor but he didn't (it was a Sunday night so wasn't fully staffed).

On the other hand, public hospitals like Cabral in Santiago and less known private hospitals like Corominas have some outstanding doctors and active PUCMM professors. It's not so much the hospital as the individual doctor who is treating you, it pays to know some personally and be referred to the better ones. For the record, I've been to CMC with what I thought was a broken finger - the guy took an xray, declared no broken bones and sent me home. Later on a doctor in Canada diagnosed a torn tendon (that heals at least 6 months and never fully) and said a cast should have been applied in order to keep the finger 100% straight. So I'll drive to Santiago next time.
