Breezes has a nice, but quite small disco. They have recently got a new dj so the music isnt as good as it used to be, but it is still a good atmosphere...when there are a few people in there anyway. Last time we were there, we spent a few nights in there dancing like crazy people. This time, I think we spent 15 mins in there for one night before we went into Sosua.

Crazy Moon is in Playa Dorada and is quite close to Roadway and Hemmingways, if I remember correctly. Ive never been in there but I am a big fan of Mangu!!!!

Lobster??

Clare - somewhere in the past year or so I read that on one or two nights there is lobster served at the outdoor buffet? Do you know if this is true or not? Just curious as to what nights they would be.

Also where does the shuttle to Cabarete drop you off at??

In all the time I have stayed there, I have never seen any lobster Im afraid. Maybe they do serve it sometimes, but I have never seen it. Come to think of it, Ive never been to an outside buffet either. We seem to have missed all the excitement.

Cabarete is just one long street so I am sure the shuttle just drops you off somewhere along there so its easy to get to the beach..I have never used that shuttle as we always get a car.

When you move there to teach, will you be able to afford a car or will you be taking conchos? You also said that the teaching job would pay for half your rent - how will you finance the other half of the rent? food? clothing? electricity bill? water? Just curious! Your boyfriend works in animation, and that does not pay for anything other than their personal expenses. It would be wise to set up a budget before you go there. I'm concerned that you are giving up a great carreer in the UK for a life of poverty and no future pension because of an animation worker. Wish you all the best.

Thanks for the concern.

I only plan to teach there for 1 or 2 years and then come back to the UK. I am going to save up some money before I go so that I have a 'just in case' fund.

Im not going to buy a car as the apartment is next door to the school, so there is no need. Transport is cheap enough into Puerto Plata if we need to go there for anything.

I have a friend that is moving over there with me and my cousin already lives there, so I will have friends already.

Aswell as getting paid, I get half of my rent paid for by the school. So from my wages, I only have to pay the other half of the rent, and then the rest of the money is mine to do as I please. The rent covers water, electricity etc.

I am not moving there because of my bf. I made a choice to move there last September and the time I can move is from this June. It just so happens I have met someone, so it is good timing to see if it will work out while I am over there.

Betty - when I was there last Janaury they had a Beach Party each week which had the buffet take place outside. I can't recall Lobster but I know they had Seafood nights each week.

While we were there last year they did serve "lobster". Not the same as back home. Was much smaller (like crayfish). Those who ate it said it was good. I

Thanks everyone again. Just heard that the casino is CLOSED for renovations? Does anyone know any thing about this and when they plan to reopen? Someone on a board told me that it could be days or months. We booked this resort because casino was on grounds. If anyone knows or can find out....THANKS

Yep, it was closed when I was there. I have never been in, but I hear it is a bit of a dodgy place, so maybe better off without it. Ocean World has a new casino that may be worth a try....or there are lots in Playa Dorada. I like the one next to Mangu, especially the free drinks!!!! We drink fast and play the cheapest slot machines slooooowwwwly haha!!

Got any space in your suitcase BettyB2? I could be your tour guide. Booked my flight today for March...78 days to go.

Sorry Clare - no room in the suitcase with all the supplies I am bringing down.;)

Can you tell me the best way to get to Playa Dorada (and cost)? How many casinos are in that complex?

We are planning one evening at OW casino - but one reason I decided oon Breezes is because of the casino on the grounds. We stayed at Breezes in Nassau this past February (39 of us) and we LOVED it. There was a casino in less than 5 minutes walking distance.

You would have to get a taxi there, which you can get from the entrance to the hotel. I think it costs between $20 and $30. They have some big taxis too which fit 6 people. It would take about 40 minutes to get there and you can organise for the driver to pick you back up again at a certain time.

Theres definately 2 casinos that I have been to in Playa Dorada. One at Holiday Village (well its just next door) and one at the hotel where Crazy Moon is....cant remember if that is the Flamenco???? There may be more casinos, but those are the only 2 I have been to. The first one is really good!!!

Im sure you would of loved the casino at Breezes then...Im not sure how long it is closed for though.

Thanks Clare. My group has a lot of gamblers and always like a nice casino while on vacation. Just need to find out what casinos are closest to Breezes and how to get there.

Can anyone just go onto the Playa Dorada complex and enter casino? What road is it on?

There is a third casino in Playa Dorada at the Playa Dorada Hotel. Management of this casino has just been taken over and reopened by the same people that manage the American Casino at Holiday Village.

There is another casino in Cabarete that is open. I just can't seem to remember the name. In fact, they just celebrated their first anniversary and had a large poker tournament about 2 weeks ago.

Yep, anyone can go into the complex, but there you do have to go past security to get in. Since you will be wearing wristbands, and dont look Dominican, you should be let in with no problems.

There is just one road in the complex, and all the casinos are signposted. From the Playa Dorada entrance, the first hotel on your left is Holiday Village and that is where the first casino is. There is a big sign post for Mangu night club aswell, so you cant miss it.

The other places are further along that road. They arent too far to walk to, but there are horse and carriage rides along the road if you dont like to walk.

Apart from the casino in Cabarete, I think Playa Dorada would be the closest. Fingers crossed the casino will be open again by the time you get there.

Ok, there is one main road with roads going off from it. One of the roads that goes off from the main road is next to the shopping mall and it leads to places like Roadway and Hemmingways....and another hotel (cant remember if that is the Flamenco hotel)

Anyway, the complex is easy to find your way round.

Casino Closed at Breezes and new casino name

Howmar - the new casino I believe is called "Ocean Sands Estate Casino".
Here is the email I received from Guest Services from Breezes yesterday:
Good Afternoon-
I am in receipt of your mail.

I truly am sorry to inform you that the Casino is closed at the moment.

I cannot inform you of the re-opening date. We are in the process of organizing the structure for settling all contracts to attain the aforementioned.

We can organize free transport to Ocean Sands Estate Casino, this is a new Casino, just one year old, and only 10 mins journey by vehicle from the Resort.

Your comments with reference to the posting of this information on Travel Sites has been noted also.

(Note - I told them that they should remove the fact that there is a casino on the grounds on their website and EVERY other travel site out there)

PS they sent me an additional email stating transportation is free to and from the casino.
