Anyone paranoid of cancer should probably focus on other things, such as your diet (i.e. Don't eat anything containing preservatives such as sodium nitrite, artificial sweeteners such as Aspartame, food coloring - Yellow 6, blue 1 and 2, etc...). These are things we consume on a daily basis which probably pose a much higher risk of causing cancer than cement houses.

Maybe YOU consume indeed. But please do not speak for all of us. Educated health concious people do not touch this junk with a 7`. And when in DR cook and eat only at home.

Healthy organic (without harmones and pesticides) food
and nutrition probly is the biggest advantage of USA over DR.

Cancer is not a joke. Not funny. Not pretty. No beach in the World is worth it.

But - diff stroke you know...

I'm not sure where you are getting your information about asbestos in concrete...are you stating that this is in ALL concrete in the world or just in the DR. Cause I can guarantee you that there is zero asbestos in the concrete in Canada or USA.

Right! In USA and Canada no more cancer provoking asbestos by law. In the third world countries - yes, everywhere.

But even in USA and even without asbestos concrete structures cause a radiation background exposure. It is well known.

I have wooden houses in several countries so I have a long first hand experience to compare with concrete buildings. One can feel the difference right after one night.

That is why came my OP question. Not to provoke a discussion or to attack DR. We know DR is a third world developing banana country , we love it as is and we know what to expect, what to do here, what not to do , what not to eat and where not to go and to live.

My question was exactly about possibility of building a wooden house in Sosua , period

It is virtually impossible nowadays to not consume some of these compounds. You'd have to live in a desert like a hermit and produce everything you consume yourself. There are so many things linked to cancer at one point or another it's best to not even worry about it.

Do you use plastic containers (i.e. water bottles), those have been linked to cancer. Do you cook on teflon coated utensils? Cancer. Do you ever use a grill? Cancer. Do you drink city water? Cancer. Do you have a cell phone ? Cancer. Go to the doctor to get an x-ray? Cancer. Smoke? Sunbathe? Use mouthwash? Lipstick or lip balm? If you're a woman and wear a bra? If you use deodorant? etc, etc, etc...You guessed it Cancer.

I think you're going to join the Amish after all of this...

Point is there are a million things out there that can supposedly cause cancer and yes there are things such as smoking and sunbathing without sunblock which we can do to help prevent it, but you cannot be going around being too paranoid about these things.

Do you ever use a grill? - Never

Do you drink city water? - No, I use distiller

Do you have a cell phone ? - I use Plantronics all the time.

Go to the doctor to get an x-ray? - I do not trust commercial doctors and never visit them.

Smoke? - No

Sunbathe? - Never. Just Swim and go home.

Use mouthwash? - Not commercial. Home made.

Lipstick or lip balm?- No

If someone has ever been in a cafe next to someone smoking and gets cancer 20 years later, that cafe is the reason. If someone knocks down an old house 2 miles away and then someone gets cancer, the asbestos is to blame. I see vegans with leather shoes, vegetarians who eat chicken and fish. People driving 2 hummers and then buying an electrical car also to make up for thier preachings of saving the planet. People raising funds for cancer research and then standing in protest the following week stoning cars of people returning to work in an animal testing lab. Very well known charities taking DONATIONS of clothing and money and then I visit the country which we are donating our goods to and find them for sale from the charity warehouse.

I find it all a little rediculous and hypocritical in EVERY aspect. I find the only people doing it right are those tucked away, living a somewhat Grizzly Adams kinda lifestyle and there are not many of them. To think you can live in society cleanly and completely eco friendly is not just silly, it is impossible.
Anyway, I have this arguement with vegans and so called clean living people on a regular basis, it is easy to preach but practicing the same is very rare in anyone. IME.

Well very good and more power to you if you can do all that and still live a "normal" life. I know 99% of people including myself couldn't or wouldn't go to that length. For instance I don't smoke or sunbathe per se, but I do visit doctors when I'm sick and use deodorant and mouthwash as don't want people to recoil in disgust when I'm around them. BTW that water you swim in? Probably full of cancer causing pesticides...Just a thought

Hell, why live here if you have to breath cancer every second you are in the house, obviously doesn't practice what he preaches or believe his own opinions, I suggest stepping away from the nudists. Although hang on, why would he want a nudist beach if he didn't sunbathe? Or be hunting for a cancer house for his friend?

With wood, you'd prob be using drywall, which is a medium for mold. Mold is the new asbestos as far as health risks are concerned and being in the tropics doesn't help. Drywall also used to use asbestos in the mud compound and in the drywall itself to make it more fireproof. And once you have carpeting over a wood floor you get dust mites, not to mention the fumes from any adhesives. Plywood puts off formaldehyde. When it comes to living in a healthy house, I think the DR wins hands down.

Is there any documentation that asbestos has ever been used in the DR? When I see them build, they usually make their own mortar on site using lime, sand and water.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, just not their own facts.

We're all gonna die!

It's raining run for the bunkers, rain is a killer in the DR!!

Actually I think my lass believed this the way life stands still when it rains. I've been stuck in plaza central entrance for 90mins before because it was drizzling a little. What is it with Dominican women and the rain phobia?

One word - hair.

I used to think that but she would tell me the rain makes people I'll here. Quite convincingly I must say as I've wondered what is different in Dominican rain from Scottish rain. Maybe bad hair is seen as an illness?

You are right - to protect oneself 100% is not possible, but to try the best - is.

Right, I swim in highly contaminated Sosua Bay as there is no other option here.

BTW, the best mouthwash is 30-day old Kambucha (with added 1-2 drops of standardized Tea tree oil B4 use).

And the best deodarant is Thai stone. Totally odorless and clean.

One has much more in his/her power than he thinks. And natural life becomes even better with better health and mood. I think of founding a life enhancement/longevity academy(clinic) for older people later on. When all other life priorities are sorted out. I accumulated alot to share with those people who believe and have will.

No! Just well finished bare wood walls or solid wood tongue and groove panelling.

Like I said, I already have several wooden houses. In which one wakes up in the morning totally invigorated.
