I am arriving in Punta Cana on May 8 at 7pm (made a mistake in booking) and I want to go to Puerto Plata as soon as posiable. what would your reccomendations be for a cheap hotel for the night ( no $150. resort) and the best way to get to where I am going. I am carring 2 large cases of donations for a mission up there pluse my bag so I will have difficulty with that or I would just get on a bus. Any sugestions?

I've been to Playa Dorada in Puerto Plata and noticed that Celluisma and Fun Royal (both 3 star resorts) had low rates. You can check them out on Trip Advisor. I have co-workers who've stayed at both and say they're clean and affordable.

I've just re-read your post and it looks like you were asking about a hotel for the night in Punta Cana rather than Puerto Plata. Sorry, I can't make any recommendations as I've not been to Punta Cana yet.

Try Cortecito Inn. (you will need to take a taxi from the airport, they may try and charge you for extra baggage!)
I would suggest getting the 6am Bavaro Express to SD and then switching to Caribe Tours for your trip to PP. Ge to the Bavaro Express parada at least half an hour early...that bus sells out really quickly. You will get to the stop in SD at Maximo Gomez and its just a quick taxi ride to CT. Not sure how your Spanish is but may determine the price...think I paid RD$150 the last time and that was a little over a year ago.
When you get to CT, try and enlist the help of a maletero to assist you with your luggage if necessary.

Good luck.
