I am from just outside of London, Ontario and my husband is in the Dominican. He has a cell phone and sometimes i can call his room at the resort he works at in Punta Cana. I usally use the Overseas Max phone card and get about 55minutes to his cell. Recently i have been having some connection problems.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any good phone cards or has tried using a phone through the internet. We talk almost everyday, but it is getting pricey when i keep getting cut off.

Thanks

Kim

I best phone card store I found, and personally use is the Long Distance Prepaid Phone Card Store (Click the link) and it's 100% Canadian

The ops original post/question is over 2 years old, her husband is now with her in Canada - since last month

Yes I know, this is for those new people going through the process. That will most likely have the same question.

I have used Skype, here in Ontario, from my PC to a landline in Ontario. I have also called to other PC's. To call a landline off the Skype, I pay $.02 cents a minute. Of course, the calls from PC to PC on Skype is free. I don't pay a connection fee. Just the amount per minute for any calls to landlines, not on Skype, to anywhere in Canada and the US.

How much does it cost to call from a PC to a lindline or cell phone in the DR?

Skype

Skype only works from PC to PC as far as I know. Be on the lookout for more technology that will enhance this type of communication

Skype works from computer to computer for free (don't like the "pc" thing), computer to 829 area code, doesn't work with skype. I bought credit, only to find it was useless. ALL the phone cards have hidden fees and end up ripping you off to the point that it is about the same as simply dialing out using Rogers or Bell or your cell provider.

I use Long Distance Prepaid Phone Card Store to buy all my phone cards, and I call a Dominican cell phone. $20.00 CAD gets me 800 Mins talk time. Which I don't think is that bad at all

where are you calling from?

using your link, selecting all types of cards, calling from Toronto to a DR cell the "best" i see is 263 minutes (7.6 cents/minute). with no fees that is reduced to 141 minutes (14.1 cents/minute)

the same applies for other locations i checked like Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa and Calgary...

The best phone card I have used is called "big time" When I call my husbands cell for $5.00 I can talk usally (without getting cut off )2hours and 20 minutes. But not all the time. And when I've used the same card and called his friends cell I did'nt get as many minutes... It's worth a try..
