It looks like the DR version of the garbage plate that is served by several restaurants in Rochester, NY. The ones in Rochester are actually pretty good.

no comparison, not even close. i live in rochester ny and eat the garbage plate often at nick tahous. but the fries in the domincan are not that bad.the best place i have discovered is in front of the matune casino hotel in santiago.always good and clean, and have never gotten sick.and besides most dominican girls would prefer to eat this type of food instead of some tourist spot they dont enjoy anyway.who is in favor of a cheap date?

The Yaroa is a dish made with a bottom layer of fries topped with seasoned ground beef, chicken salad, ketchup, mayo, special homemade sauce and a top layer of cheese melted to perfection. Nobody knows exactly who or how it was created, but according to street rumors one late night a young customer stopped by a food cart and everything was sold out, so he told the owner he wants a little bit of everything that was left and the Yaroa was born. just had one it was great.

thats what I bought at the parking lot below the monument once...what junk...
it is like some of those vendors will just throw anything together to make some concoction to have a sale...

I think the vendors just go to the back of the nicer resturants and scoop up the leftovers, heat them up smother it will ketchup and mayo and cover it will a layer of cheese so you cant see what you will be eating ha ha ha...

the fries are cheap filler ha ha ha

I have also had burritos late at night from those same vendors.. and i cant really tell you what is in it....i think they do the same thing ha ha ha

PS: Tigre...i seriously doubt that the cheese is swiss, in the DR!!

bad bob

If you want to eat a good Yaroa go to Luis place in the parking lot acroos the street from Hotel Matun, or go for a servicio de carne con ensalada at Amaray next to La Braza carne in the parking lot where Terra Bus used to be years ago, he is always open late nights awaiting for the drunks guys.

Sure they do, you just don't know where to look.

There's a guy on Sol Poniente (Los Rios) that makes them. Wicked good.

I posted that in 2008!! Since then I've found about 5 or 6 Yaroas places in Santo Domingo itself, nothing like the real deal in El Cibao though...

Eww guys, that looks really gross (to me) but to each its own.
I don't know about ground beef in the DR (gagging) the meat is cooked until all the grease dries up (its not drained).
Not even close to a Dominican dish...ewww...ok maybe hangover food cause I wouldnt be in my right mind, but nahhh, I'll pass.

And that place near Hotel Matum, a friend took me there for (dizque) the "best quipes, yaroas & empanadas".
I saw a few people leaning over and feeding some critters in the bushes so my friend & I decide to check it out.
It was a litter of tiny rats and they were running in and out of the bushes and under the makeshift food stand like trained monkeys! I dont remember how I made it to the car so fast !
