I am wondering if the Cdn quarantine has that much effect on a 3-4-5 month visitor....

But truthfully, the No Coast expat snowbird community is touted by many here to be large
Large enough that they think it's a key component of the economy.

Perhaps we're seeing it's not so big..... or as big some think it is

Time will tell

My snowbird clients (three separate apartments) are still expecting to come to Cabarete via POP in November and December. No cancellations yet. We'll see how it goes.

Canada has yet to deliver on a flight..... that seems to be the problem

All airlines in the USA are about 30% of the normal schedule/flights......

If these rapid tests are approved nationally, and my school division complies with federal law, we will be in the DR this December. Unless there’s a huge spike.
I was once the President of a Technology company...One of our divisions invented an Instant HIV test ,self administered. The best they could determine was 93%....... as a consequence if one showed POSITIVE then we had to take two more if one of the two were Positive then we had to go to a Hospital for the more sophisticated and accurate tests...On the other hand if the last two were negative then we determined the first was a false positive.
That was in Mid 90's so I am sure things have improved since then. But instant tests under one hour have a chance of false positives. Oh yes we also determined that they also provided in that same 7% false negatives .... but no one wanted to do another test. Human response to what we want to hear and see,....

The snowbird community has some significance for the north coast, but is insignificant in the overall scheme of tourism in the DR.

I think you have made that point "once or twice" before. For those if us who have businesses here on the north coast, the snowbird community is very significant, as you must know.

Airtransat is listing flights from YUL(Montreal to POP) starting tomorrow Nov 6th. YYZ(Toronto) only starts in december from what they have posted thus far. Which is stange , as they combine the flight to Punta Cana with the one from toronto but not combining the to Puerto Plata .

Probably some obscure Quebec law that says since Airtransat is based in that province it must be serviced first.

Sunwing had 2 flights from Canada to PUJ today. One from Montreal already landed and one from Toronto currently in the air running late (as usual).
Air Canada runs every Saturday and West Jet is still scheming and scamming.

It looks like the Air transat from Montreal arrived into POP as scheduled and has since left on the return leg back to Montreal . If air transat can do it why can't WestJet?

Take a flight to Montreal the day before, go enjoy some Canadian ballet on Peel street, then catch the flight in the morning. You will be a better person for it. Poorer but better.

As I mentioned, it has some significance on the north coast and is an afterthought , if a thought is given to it at all, by the government in Santo Domingo.

Yes I certainly understand what it means for some businesses on the north coast. I have been here 17 years and see the dramatic decrease in tourists and what was a gradual rise in snowbirds and full time residents from outside the DR.

I am sorry for those who have businesses here. I never recommend anyone to come here to run a business for this very reason.

Not worth the cost or time. I may as well fly to punta cana and drive from there. Which i once did, I'll wait it out and see what happens come December with Airtransat. Peel steet, you haven't been there in ages obviously. its all about the old port , downtown is like a ghost town (Montreal)

The Government of Alberta has announced that passengers on flights returning from out of country thru Calgary will only be subject to a 2 day quarantine. The test kit they give you is free but the instructions are still a bit vague. I have only ever gone thru Calgary to the DR once and it was on AC. It great not having to go thru Toronto or Montreal.
I think Air Transat is looking at that route again but it's still to early to tell.
