I remember seeing that area when I was on the detour and thinking how low it looked. If we get a couple days in a row of hard rain, that stretch will be closed out for more than just a couple hours. That road could get washed out.

It not only could, at some point it WILL, everything has to do with how much rain there is. If August-October becomes very wet this year, then definitely that road will be unusable for long periods.

Some video of today's flooding

When the water level is much higher than the bridge, it doesn't matter if the bridge is clogged or not.

Has the Cangrejos bridge ever been underwater?

That close to the sea - I am sure that is a giant NO - it was 20' above the river.
But you never know with Climate Change and all, Greta says the oceans are rising 3' per year, so in 10 years the who North Coast will be useless !
But the good news Bill Gates just finished his renovations to a sea level house he bought in San Diego, so even the Globalists don't even believe the rising oceans hype

I will respond to the only DR related thing in that misinformation filled post by saying that NOBODY is saying that the North Coast will be useless in only ten years due to sea level rise.

The Cangrejos-bridge

The Cibao North Regional Director of the Ministry of Public Works, Basilio González, oversees the work being carried out by technicians from the Dominican electricity company ETED to install new poles for the high-voltage power lines across the Camú River.

The Cangrejos-bridge

The Cangrejos-bridge

Once this phase is completed, the follow-up work, the pile driving that will support the constructions of the new Cangrejos-bridge, can begin, the official explained. The danger of the high voltage cables makes it necessary to move the poles on both sides of the Camú River, in order to continue the installation work of the new Cangrejos-bridge. Guillermo De los Santos, is the manager in this province of the Dominican electricity company ETED. The start of these works delights the residents of the place and businessmen in the area, because of the importance of the new bridge to be built.

Why are they putting in wood poles and not concrete?
I guess they want to come back in 10 years and disrupt things yet again

At last! At least they are doing SOMETHING!
Well they will be on their rice and beans break soon - for six months. They are upgrading the detour river crossing so they don't have plans on having this bridge open soon

I think the wood poles can withstand a direct hit by a car or truck better than concrete poles, at least from what i've seen.

They snap off instead of cutting a car in half.

Until they have an agreement from the owners of the land they need to build the four-lane bridge, there's probably not much construction work they can do right now. They should have done this a year ago when they knew they would have to re[place the bridge,

The last date for the tender to be received is in 4 days (6 june)

I'm guessing the folks who do this sort of construction can figure out the how and cost pretty quick.

Hope it goes to a foreign contractor or if not it won't be finished before 2026
