We would love to do this!

"As of today, there is currently no car ferry service operating directly between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic; however, the shipping company Baleària plans to launch a new ferry route between San Pedro de Macorís (Dominican Republic) and Mayagüez (Puerto Rico) sometime after summer 2024, which would allow for car transport on the ferry.

Key points about the potential ferry service:
  • Route: San Pedro de Macorís (Dominican Republic) to Mayagüez (Puerto Rico)
  • Company: Baleària Caribbean
  • Current status: Not yet operational, expected to start after summer 2024"

There is already one ferry company called Carbie Ferries that goes from Santo Domingo to San Juan. This is the 2nd new project but it has nothing to do with the current company.

Doesn't that one operate 3 days a week?

Yes, that's a new company (not Ferries del Caribe)

According to Puertorrican news outlets, Balearia is delayed on launching this new route and no news updates have happened since Oct 2024: https://www.elnuevodia.com/negocios...-ferri-entre-mayaguez-y-san-pedro-de-macoris/

With Carbie Ferries it is a 14 hour night trip. It costs about U$270 round trip per person but if you are going by car then it will cost an extra U$340 round trip. Foot passengers have to arrive 3 hours before and passengers traveling with cars have to arrive 6 hours before. So this means that if you are traveling with a car the journey takes over 24 hours...you can fly to the other side of the world in less time! Arajet are starting flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico very soon, a round trip flight (including carry on and checked luggage) is about U$285 and the flight is just over an hour. I would definitely fly over taking a night ferry!

I used Caribe Ferries for years to move raw materials into the DR and finished goods back to PR.

It was much faster and cheaper than air shipments, mainly due to customs.

FEDEX shipments to PR then sent on the ferry were much faster than directly to our plant in the DR.

For some reason taking the ferry to/from the DR to PR just doesn't sound fun.

For most, it's an all-night party. There's a disco and a casino.

Imagine if you will, Dominicans on a cruise ship with an all-night Disco and gambling.

See? Now you get the idea. :ROFLMAO:
