It was a horrible night for driving, bad storm and on the way back from CMC we were all going 20 and I saw 30 cars pulled over to wait out the storm. By the looks of his car he was not going slow and I know people who were good friends with him and he liked to drink... a lot. Just saying it may not have been anyone else's fault but his own.

A friend of mine said he was at hotel Coco having a few last night.

(I just heard this, can't verify it yet)

He moved back to the DR from Montreal when he was a teenager so he could be drafted at 16. He still had a Canadian passport.
Based on Eastons post appears to be a tragically preventable accident. Condolences to both families.

it is really sad, but the news report said that it occurred in the midst of a flood, which impaired visibility. you avoid a wreck in those circumstances by backing off the loud pedal.

I am sorry for his family. But it is just more of the insane way the Dominicans drive. Minutes before his death he was posting photos he took of himself and his girlfriend while driving at a high rate of speed at night in the rain. Will anyone here learn how to drive with even the slightest bit of common sense? Its the death capitol of the world and still they press on, never stopping, passing in traffic excessive speed, drinking and driving. But who cares? we are free to do as we please in this country they say. Well I am sure his family cares now and there will be lots of grieving. He was the top minor league prospect in all of baseball before making the big leagues this year, only 22, with a wonderful life ahead of him. Very very sad

Speed, alcohol, trying to impress a novia, driver inexperience and bad weather = untimely and necessary death of a baseball all star

plus, driving a very powerful rear wheel drive car with mountains of torque in the rain. i prefer to impress a woman by getting her home safely in the face of perilous conditions.

Unfortunately this is another example of the chopo mentality that has corrupted Dominican society.

very true. i was young once, and i have a gift for driving fast, but rain-slicked roads were not things i played with. this guy was showing this girl what a piloto he was.

Lo Siento Mucho a la familia. A promising and bright future snuffed out on the highway. One of my best friends in Sosua is his cousin. Needless to say, the family is devastated. Starting in the outfield for the St. Louis Cardinals is a big deal in North America and the whole family is so so proud. A dream of a lifetime for a talented young Sosuan.

And the snide remarks are not appropriate nor appreciated. Two young lives were tragically lost. R.I.P.

i see no snide remarks. this guy did not die because a tree fell on him. his death is indeed a tragic moment, but i do not see anything wrong in noting that it was, by all appearances, a matter of his own making.
