Carnival Cruise Lines - Port in Maimon

I believe cruisers to be a specific type of tourist.

I was talking a friend the other day that takes several cruises a year and has for years. I asked her if she left the boat and did the excursions around town and stuff. She said her friends and family only do excursions if they are to places close by and they aren't all day.

I asked her if they ever went into towns on their own. She said "No, we never go beyond the guys with the guns. It's dangerous past them". I assumed she was referring to the guards at the ports. I thought it was funny. She did say that Carnival had already sent her email pushing a cruise that included a stop at Amber Cove though.

It's just one person, but I think a lot of people on the boat share the same views.

there are basically two types of tourists. one is the allocentric tourist, who is the adventurer. he is the kind of guy who likes to be on his own, and to do things off the beaten path. then there are the polar opposites, the psychocentrics. those are the guys who go on organized tours, to well proven destinations. they like to go to places like Disneyland and other packaged offerings, and cruise ships. they are inside their bubble. they do not have to be able to speak another language. they want food they recognize, and they are accustomed to eatingat home. they want to be around people who look like them. they do not want to take risks of being bitten by some strange flying insect.

those are cruise ship types. they see tyhe ship as the destination. they very often do not want to go ashore, running the risk of having to juxtaposition themselves with swarthy natives. the boat will suffice, thank you.

If you really think that any country would make a deal with a cruise ship operator not to see money come in, you are really off your rocker.


Again, the port was designed and created with one thing in mind: A change on how cruises are done.

The whole idea is a new concept for the cruising industry and it's going to benefit more the locals and still save a bundle to the operators with the ship at port.

Try as you may, this is a good deal for the DR and for our pockets.

actually, PICHARDO, i have dedicated a lot of study time on the little matter of cruise ship operations. unlike you, i do not pull pies out of the sky. it is all data which has been gathered by multiple scholars of the subject. you are not talking to some guy who is a first year student at UASD, PICHARDO. save the promises and imaginings for them.

i already told you that 57% of travelers to St Lucia go there by ship, and they account for 5.5% of all tourist revenue. that figure does not vary by very much in the cruise ship world, because the business model paradigms are not very different from destination to destination. we will make allowance for the DR, since it is the most advanced, cutting edge country in the hemisphere. therefore, while no other port of call is seeing any worthwhile amount of economic benefit, the DR will show the rest of the world how it is done.

just like it was going to show Braniff and Hawaiian how to run an airline.

Please enlighten us. Is there going to be mystical magical sh!t going on at this particular port. All I see is an 8 hour stop with a majority of the people trying to get the excursion to Sea World. Let the reviews from the travelers tell it all.

the DR is going to show the world how cruises are done. just like they were going to teach the big airlines that failed how to run an airline when they were planning Air Dominicana.

I sure would not mind owning one of those sea food restaurants in Maimon right about now. The first one to paint their building and hire English speaking waitresses wins!

You dont think some taxi drivers, bus drivers, tour guides, port workers, or cruise line worker will be utilizing any of the restaurants in Maimon? Especially since the restaurants inside Amber Cove are going to be a bit over priced for the local market?

You dont think some taxi drivers, bus drivers, tour guides, port workers, or cruise line worker will be utilizing any of the restaurants in Maimon? Especially since the restaurants inside Amber Cove are going to be a bit over priced for the local market?

even if they do, that will just be a case of transfering money from one local to another, and not new revenue.
