Maybe you can understand this. Bussing a group of divers directly to a dive shop, they dive, walk fifty yards on the beach to eat lunch, and they are back on the bus to another location.

NOW, Sosua is Pedro Clisante, the working ladies, the bars on the strip. These are the places a year ago were shaking in their boots about what would happen. As it looks now Carnaval has found a way to bus in a group of tourists while still keeping them away from "Sosua", you know? The Real Sosua .............. seems like an even trade off

i agree. back to Maimon. far more interesting, and not off topic.

Has anyone actually been to see Amber Cove yet. I am really a Johnny come lately to this thread but I really like what I have read about the port so far, and my gut feeling I sure hope it ALL goes well.

Of course Carnaval is the big winner, why shouldn't they be they shelling out the cash.

A few more jobs for the locals at Amber Cove, retailers who have to provide supplies, local tour operators I imagine are going to get a piece of the action.

I don't hit the north coast but if I did I sure would like to see Amber Cove. Guess I am a little more excited than most because I thought just another cruise port like in SD..........

Still curious, does anyone know if non-passengers can visit Amber Cove?

They have at least one other tour package that visits Sosua bay on land... http://www.carnival.com/shore-excur...o-cities-susua-and-cabarete-with-lunch-445028 and another that goes by catamaran to snorkel in Sosua bay (while dodging banana boats?)

ok. there will be further personal bickering here, comprende?

as far as the port is concerned, they are letting in politicos, journalists and so on. i doubt it will be open for anyone from the outside, in a sense of visiting bars/restaurants. it's a question of safety of passengers and the capacity of the port.

tour operators... well... there is a bit of an issue here because carnival brought some people with them and i know local tour businesses that have already sold to companies that operate excursions for carnival in other locations.

i will see you on the 6th, because i know you will be parked up where you can get a good view of the first ship to arrive there.

I'm just wondering if Hurricane Joaquin will affect the first planned cruise that's due to dock on Tuesday?

Where ever they're coming from, they will have to go through the aftermath of Joaquin to get to Maimon. Bet they will be happy to set foot on land that doesn't move under their feet. (assuming no earthquakes for their visit)

i think the chances of turistas getting dengue/chikungunya are pretty low. look at the volume of tourism at the moment, they are not affected. besides, a great opportunity for tour guides who can sell cans of repellent on their excursions. it's more of a concern that the city centre is all dug up now, not much to see and do.

very true about the repellent...a great entrepreneurial opportunity.
