I have seen the Carol Morgan School referred to by various people over the years and I always was of the impression that while it might not be the top of the heap it was a reasonably well off school for relatively well off families.

Today on another board a rather outspoken Dominican referred to it in this way:

"Carol Morgan school is a low income school for the poorest of the poor in Santo Domingo located at Ave Sarasota and Nunez de Careces"

Is he pulling our leg on the other board or did I have the wrong impression after absorbing info over the years?

Thanks for any input.

I have heard from many ppl that this is one of the top schools in SD....

I don't have kids in any schools in SD, so I can't comment first hand, but I've heard it's a great place...

How much they charge? We will find out if the poorest can afford their fee.
The poorest can not even afford colegio in their poorest neighborhood.

CMS is one of the most expensive schools in the country. Tuition for high school students is 7,000+ USD per year.

Just like any place it has it good and bad points. It is the best school in the country for athletic opportunities (except for Lincoln in La Roma in the area of golf) and it has the closest thing to a "true" American curriculm on the island.

If you can afford it and want an "American Education" then this is the place for your children.

I am a mother of 2 and I would quickly place my children in CMS, if I could only afford the $7000 USD tutition and the fact that they do not even ALLOW a payment plan;)!!!

CMS, imho is one of if not the best bilingual school whenit comes to a well rounded education. I will be placing my children there in the summer camp, next summer. Whoever even let that come out of their mouth, I am sure regreted the words after they were said... lol

CMS isn't on sarasota, it's one block over. secondly, my dominican buddy sent his three kids to CMS and they all are either in university in the US or hold degrees from the US.

Actually, it's on Sarasota at the corner of Nunez, I drive past it every day :)

My school participates in CMS's Inter school competitions...and I got to take a close look at it while still at school...campus is very nice they have 2 football fields I believe, a softball field, a gym with a basketball/volleyball court and an outdoor baseball/volleyball court too, shower rooms are pretty nice too. It is one of the best schools in DR and of course one of the most expensive.
They focus a lot on sports, its even normal to see that most students are involved in more than one discipline and the teams have more than enough replacements.
This is not a bad thing, though I have heard from my old computing teacher (Mr. Robert Smith famous golf player and ALS teacher) that they often tend to give more importance to sport than to some subjects like computing (reason why he never accepted a job there).

Whoever made that comment has absolutely no idea about life in Santo Domingo. I would "lol" that comment hands down. CMS is one of the best schools in Santo Domingo. It always has been. My brother went there.

Moreyl - Robert would not move over to CMS because of the lack of golf. And maybe because not enough people there would have been able to understand his Scottish accent. :)

What years did you attend ALS? If you played on sports teams I might have seen you play.

hahaha....yes believe me it takes time to get used to his accent...I remember the first time I had computing, I had to ask him to repeat the questions twice....anyways, he told us that was not a big issue since he could play at the country club and other places....anyways...yes I was in the volleyball and basketball team.....2000-2003 somewhere in between...it was an on and off thing.....
Do you keep in touch with Mr. Smith? He moved back to Scotland, I never got a chance to see him again after I graduated in 2004....:(....he was one of the best teachers in school.

We were at CMS during those years so I am sure I saw you play. I was the teacher with long hair that was alway taking photographs of the sporting competitions.

I believe my husband does keep in touch with Robert (and Mr. Saunders) so if you want to pm me your name I will have him pass along a message for you.

I graduated from a little-a$$ bilingual school about two blocks away from CMS wishing at times that I would be in CMS..... CMS is the best bilingual school in the country, the 7-10K US$ gives you a top-notch American-style curriculum, a lot of my old friends went there at one point or another or graduated from there. If I had the resources and the kids, I would put my kids there or in American School of Santo Domingo, but I'm not as familiar with them as I am with CMS. Most of the rich folks in Sto Dgo send their kids there.....
