I read a lot of novels, and in novels they are always changing the dealer when they think a player may be "counting the cards" etc...
Der Fish

In "real life" casinos in Atlantic City, the dealers rotate on a set schedule. At the craps table they rotate 20 minutes at each position, so one hour at a time, then they have a 20 minute break to eat/restroom/check e-mail/whatever. Other games they rotate tables, 20 minutes each, also working one hour on, then 20 minutes off. If a dealer feels ill, they can request to be "tapped out" [replaced], they don't pull dealers because someone is winning. The "eye in the sky" cameras watch everything.

Ha, not me, boring accounting/business administrator, and I never gamble. Rarely a lottery ticket. Mr. AE started working in casinos back in 1972, until he retired last May. When people ask him for tips on gambling, he always says "Sure - don't do it". I remember years ago he came home from work and said "today I watched someone lose the amount of our mortgage on one roll of the dice".

We used to go to DR casinos, but it was for him to visit old buddies. The atmosphere has changed dramatically over the decades. Now they're all either working in US casinos, retired or dead. :ermm:

then we are kindred spirits. my father owned racehorses, but i have never bet on any game of chance in my life. i must have some degree of control. i used to play dominoes for money. big money. but the money was not mine. a wealthy Chinese guy would put me up against all comers, and share the winnings with my partner and me.

Has anyone every played in the Casino by After One in Sosua? Is it a scam? I am a fairly seasoned Black Jack Player and I am thinking of going - just wondering if there are any obscure rules or other concerns there.

Had a strange experience at a BJ table in Costa Rica where they dealt the dealers cards last one after another and also didn't take a hit on 16 which was BS and gave the casino the edge. Thinks like that - or do they play standard rules you would expect in AC or LV?

I've seen that many of the casinos in the Caribbean recently have started to play BJ where the dealer does not take his second card until everyone else has played their hand. I've seen this in many casinos in Curacao, a few in Aruba, some in Panama and some here in the DR. To my knowledge there is no gambling commission in the DR so you play at your own risk! If the rules of the game seem fishy then put your money back in your pocket and leave. The only casino I would ever consider playing at in the DR is the Hard Rock Casino in Punta Cana, they are the most Vegas like casino in appearance and they appear to play by all of the common and obvious US\Vegas rules for all of their games. Plus they have the highest table limits and they have crap tables.

That has happened to me in AC where I have don't really well and noticed an uptake in the dealer being swapped out -- only happened in 1 casino but was really obvious!!

i have never played any games of chance, so i know nothing about games like blackjack. i do, however, have a Chinese friend who is a master of the game. we went to a casino in POP once, and he was murdering the house. every few minutes, they would change the dealer. my friend informed me that in reputable casinos, the dealers are changed at regular intervals, and not because a guy might be winning. is he correct?
