Bye Bye Mickey Mouse?

WASHINGTON (AP) — Staffers of the U.S. Agency for International Development were instructed to stay out of the agency’s Washington headquarters on Monday, according to a notice distributed to them, after billionaire Elon Musk announced President Donald Trump had agreed with him to shut the agency.

USAID staffers said they also tracked more than 600 employees who reported being locked out of the agency’s computer systems overnight. Those still in the system received emails saying that “at the direction of Agency leadership” the headquarters building “will be closed to Agency personnel on Monday, Feb. 3.”

The developments come after Musk, who's leading an extraordinary civilian review of the federal government with the Republican president's agreement, said early Monday that he had spoken with Trump about the six-decade U.S. aid and development agency and “he agreed we should shut it down.”

“It became apparent that its not an apple with a worm it in,” Musk said in a live session on X Spaces early Monday. “What we have is just a ball of worms. You’ve got to basically get rid of the whole thing. It’s beyond repair.”

“We’re shutting it down,” he said.

Don't think the Trump administration has really thought this action through, ending USAID. China has its foot in the Dominican door.

Regards,

PJT
Oh well, actions have consequences. Just like Trump being elected in general was going to affect the DR in some ways. Here is one.

DR, Rebecca Latorraca, don't let the door hit you in the .... on your way out.

As for China getting into the DR. Well, that will be a very deep subject.

Much more than its foot and now a foothold in Cuba. Same for US tariffs on Canada, Mexico, the UK, and China itself. China will use it to strengthen its hegemony policy in the Northern hemisphere. Conquer by economic means.

Windy. China has proven, time and time again, it’s ability to use its economic strength to ignore human rights, harass Taiwan, and turn a deaf ear to the criticism levelled at them by a lot of countries. They are closely linked to Russia and both Russia and China are permanent members on the UN Security Council. Their veto power ensures the protection of their economic and military interests. China has strong economic ties in the DR. Now they have economic and military ties in Cuba and so does Russia. Is Venezuela next? Venezuela has oil, something China is very interested in. China’s hegemony policy is planned over centuries, not years.

I am well aware of China's initiatives world wide. China screwed up the place, Sri Lanka, that I originally planned to retire to. I follow what China is up to. China got the DR to kick out Taiwan and will probably get the DR to do stupid things and become indebted to China.

If you think that after deleting USAID, the USA will let the DR go more to China, then we will have to see how that plays out.
I personally don't care what happens 50, or probably even 25 years down the road.

The USA should also pull out of the UN, a useless organization and you mention some of the reasons why it is useless.

China isn't exactly rich either. Look what Marcos did yesterday in Panama. Be assured he can do the same in the DR if necessary.

Denying USAID to countries could be similar to not tipping the doorman, waiters, taxi drivers, and ect. They treat well those who remember them. You stiff them, they will stiff you when their help needed. Giving out a little bit of honey goes a long way, reaps welcome returns.

Luis is no fool.
China will not be gaining a bigger foothold here in the DR. Keep in mind, these funds have only been "paused" at this point in time until they/"D.O.G.E." can take a look at where this money is actually being spent and who really benefits as a result.

You "tip" someone for a service provided, tell me exactly what service the DR or similar countries are providing the USA

Did anyone notice that Elon Musk reduced 80% of Twitters workforce?

Short answer: no.

Guess that in government agencies even a 90% cut would go unnoticed.

Two senior security officials at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) were threatened with arrest and then put on leave after refusing to let Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) access systems at the agency.

The only way I can see USAID being on hold is if court battles can somehow restore all or part of USAID. On that the jury is out.
If that result is a no change to force USAID back, I don't see USAID coming back...
