It is hard to understand why almost a month after the bridge collapsed a replacement bridge for vehicular traffic has not been installed. Spent three hours at the site on Sunday, and none of the drivers that queued up for the long wait to cross via the barge could understand the lack of efficiency of the Ministry of Public Works.
On Sunday, work was going on at the temporary bridge.

Bridge Over Rio Chavon

I was wondering if anybody knows that status of the bridge between Santo Domingo and Punta Cana that was knocked out of commission from Jeanne.

I'm planning a trip to the east in late November and want to know if and when it will be accessible.

Hi.

We were just there last week and the bridge over the Rio Chavon (if that's the one you're talking about) was still out. There was a ferry trying to get one car across at a time. It had a motor but no rudder (guys were steering it by pulling it with ropes from the shore) so we opted to drive the longer way around!

Latest report is that the temporary bridge will be operational in a week's time.

Bridge(more or less) across Chavon River

We just got back from taking a group across the Chavon River- we had been telling them that they would have to walk across but when we got there(sat. evening about 6 PM) the workers had just finished an earthen causeway- so we drove right across- much easier!
