What about that hostel place that guy promoted on here? He had a blog. They have rooms as well.

These places are tremendous for young people!! You have instant friendships and learn DR1-esque information about your surroundings. Thirty years ago, I "hostelled" across Europe and if the European women's standards were just a smidgeon lower, you bet I would have some stories!!!

Does anyone know if hotels in Santo Domingo are usually available for New Year's Eve? We're invited to a party in the capital, and don't want to drive 45 minutes back home in the wee hours. Also don't want to spend a fortune for a hotel.

Back home they're ridiculously expensive and booked many months in advance. Same in DR??

I think the big hotels which have functions do get booked up but I just checked Casa Sanchez in the Colonial Zone for you and it has availability starting at US$99 for a standard room up to US$160 for a suite.

I booked NYE nights with Hilton and Melia a few years ago, - was as easy and reasonably priced as any other night of the year.

This aparthotel has a few parking spaces right in front. I believe you know where el conuco restaurant is? Hotel Jaguar is right around the corner. You could park the car and walk down to Jaragua Hotel/Casino for the party after the party. Room rate is around $55 taxes included. Nothing fancy, clean, safe and secure. Speak with Rafael the owner and he will answer any questions.

Try El Conde de Penallba in the Colonial Zone. Reasonable prices, great location, good restaurant.

Parking is not a simple solution in the Colonial Zone due the fact that the buildings were there long before cars we even invented. Having said that, Casa Sanchez has its own secure own parking area but spaces are limited (currently available for 31/12/2015 as it happens) but also safe and secure parking is available only a block away above a police station!

i am looking for recommendations for cheap and safe hotels in SD and las terrenas. preferably under 50 dollars per night. it would be good if the places had some sort of a rudimentary website or FB page.
thanks.

I dont know if you still need the info but in LT, Casa del mar neptunia, 2 min from the beach, small, clean, well decorated and breakfast included (a good one at that) , 2000 pesos per night. I believe they received some kind of trip advisor award. I had my own uncle stay there and a couple friends, they loved it.
