Just looking for suggestions for a cheap monthly rental at or very close to puerto plata.
For a dominican relative and wife. Just the basics running water and electricity for at least half the day

Seriously, just need them to have a basic place for a month or couple months and is no way a "vacation" place, just something simple in town ideally.
They know how to take care of themselves and have relatives nearby.

Any idea on the average cost per month?

As per the ad, it's a ground floor 2 br apartment in that house, not the whole house... Also, perhaps the location is not the most centric?

We've lived in places as you describe in the past (in POP, when we were just 2 people)... I want to say that you can do this with less than 10 k per month, but I'd also want to say that you won't find this online, either through relatives or on the street, looking for properties that are for rent...

Online, I would simply keep looking for corotos and mercado libre for rentals...

I rode by Montellano on a day trip from PP to Sousa. For the 3 minutes we were there, it looked fine. It's halfway between PP and Sousa. Good 2 hour walk each way.

We've not been looking for a house for years, but when we did (last time was about in 2014...), rentals with that budget existed, but not online...

15k, in a good area, and from the images I'd judge that you get what you pay for... That is starting to be the market that is online... So if online search is your only option, not sure if you can do 10k...
