Re: Would love to move here

There is no cheap place in Dominican Republic. If you believe Criss you will end up in a ditch somewhere. This is no place to move with $8000 dollars. Are you kidding me or what? Add another zero and you might just barely make it.

Re: Would love to move here

Let me tell you this: You need about 6-7 months worth of cash to live here before you start to make enough money to support your simple life style. I had to wait almost a year before I was able to pay for everything from my earned money.
Tell us, where would you like to live in DR? If you are considering the north coast, then you would be able to find a small simple place to live near the beach but work would be very hard to find. I was just in puerto plata over the weekend. I saw very few tourists in playa dorada hotel complex and very little action in the bars and restaurant. Then again, most people were at the free concert on the melecon; non-the-less those people are not really the types who spend money anyway in puerto plata. The businesses are down and jobs are scarce. All of my friends are complaining of the hard time that they are living in and more apprehensive of the worsening economy.
I am sorry to inform you on this: 8000 dollars just won?t get you too far in DR, if you are only starting up here fresh. I brought in much more than 8K and was whipped off in a short time. Luckily, I was able to bail myself out by moving into Santiago from Puerto plata.
I cannot tell you much about the Santo Domingo area or Boca chica. I hear that its much more costlier to live there than to live in Santiago. On the other hand, you may have a better chance of finding work in such a large city than here.
Good luck
