Tropix is a couple blocks uphill from the Police station/Plareyo in a Dominican middle-class residential area. Very low traffic and I think only 10 rooms. It has a pool and when I was there, a "courtesy bar" so if you wanted a cold beer, you could just grab one and put some money in the box next to it. $45/night. It's not quite as close as the hotels downtown, but it's very quiet and still a very easy walk. I'd walk into town mornings and then take a moto to Tropix at night. It has one of the best hotel gardens in town. I don't see the no breakfast as a deal-breaker because Rocky's is a better place to meet people anyways. No TV or AC but they do have Wi-Fi. The owner's parents were among the Jewish refugees that founded Sosua, but judging by her accent, she was raised in NYC.

Perla de Sosua gets very good reviews here as well and it's quite close to the ocean, but about the same distance by foot as Tropix to the beach.

If you can handle taking motos, many folks here recommend El Colibri as a good value, but it's a bit too isolated for me.

Another option would be to go to Cabarete. I liked Hotel Kaoba there and they have many options for rooms, including bungalows --it's very quiet.

$29 is really rock bottom for price now in Sosua, esp if you want a pool.

once all these new places get cranked up calle dr. Rosen is gonna be quite noisy until after 3 or 4 in the morning. Seabreeze is another good choice on Alejo Martinez.
