Is there a website where I can enter my cedula number and that of my son to check on the status?

If not, could I obtain this information from a JCE office?

Could you clarify if its the status of a residency or citizenship?

Unfortunately, the DR doesn't have a web page where you can check these statuses. The follow-ups are done by visits or phone calls, the former being the best way.
