Literacy rates in Jamao are very low. Strength for the Journey is trying to improve this situation. We read to our children every day and are teaching our parents about the importance of reading to their children.

To reinforce this effort, we have begun a small lending library. However, our picture book selection is very limited. Would you be willing to help us by purchasing a book for our library? Children's books on Amazon cost between $8.00 and $20.00 USD for a hardbound book.

You could purchase an Amazon e gift certificate, make a contribution, buy a book and bring it to us, or actually purchase a book to mail to us via our EPS mailbox in Miami.

We received more donations from our generous Dr1 members! Yesterday, I placed an order for 52 children's books and several people are purchasing books and sending them! Thank you so much for your support. This is how we impact change in the DR, one small step at a time investing in a better future. When the books arrive, I will take photos for you all to see your accomplishments! Thanks!!!

The support of dr1 members in our children's library project was fantastic! You helped us purchase 98 books for our library, and several individuals sent us books they selected. Such generosity and support of children and education are just one of the things that makes dr1 members a special group. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!!!

Inside the book cover of each book is a sticker saying the name of the donor. If you are a Facebook friend of mine, you received a photo of the books you contributed to our library. Otherwise, you will receive the photo in a message here on dr1.
