In the budget segment Xiaomi phones are much better as compared to Samsung. Xiaomi phones comes with much powerful hardware at much cheaper price. Even in the camera and battery department, Xiaomi beats Samsung in budget segment easily. Mi A1 has one of the best camera with flagship level portrait mode.

As mentioned in a different thread, I am interested in 3D printing and drone technology, 2 high-tech fields where we see a lot of innovations year after year.
I always try to get the best product and then compromise based on price and functionalities.
At the time that I bought and still now, Chinese products were the best in each field.

I am not talking about cheap stuff.

This is why China will own the world one Day ! ... because almost everybody is underestimating them.
We are ordering custom made milled and lathed parts from china, machinery and cold Room Equipment for more than 15 years.
True, a while ago they were cheap and delivered a lousy quality, but this times are over. Today they deliver same and sometimes even better quality than Europe or the US for less than half of the price. Most of the Chinese stores here are filled with cheap rubbish because this is what the average DR costumer requests.
I went to europe a few month ago. Nobody likes to work anymore. All about vacation and benefits etc. How do they want to compete with China ???

I think China is already ahead. They certainly will be in 10-15 years time. Something we all have to learn to accept.

I know a lot of what they sell Is poor quality but, on the other hand, who wants to spend more than $5 on a garbage bin, a plastic storage bowl or a hairbrush?

Just to clarify—it’s not exactly “new.” That Chinese store in Friusa has been open for about two years now. And honestly? Most of the stuff in there is cheap crap.
Their business has also taken a hit lately, especially with the Mass deportation of Haitians. That was a big part of their customer base, and you can see the difference now.

Any products of any quality in the DR have a short service life, a result of cultural behaviors that tend to avoid careful handling. How many faucets are replaced because of valves being damaged by turning handles too tight? How many stove tops rust out soon because of tough abrasive cleaning? It just goes to say... why buy expensive products? Especially, if a hired person has a tendency to rough handle them. Buying cheap lessens the pain when a product goes poof. The Chinese offer cheap resolutions. Stores selling cheap products get more traffic, the Chinese bank on it.
