It seems every year the debate between "buy now or wait for last minute deals" on Christmas flights starts on the board in late summer.

While everyone has their own personal style/strategy/opinion, the fact remains, Delta has some great pricing right now (at least from Boston).

For what it is worth, a round trip ticket from Boston to Santo Domingo on select flights for the period 12/22/07-1/4/08 is currently available from $461.10 w/taxes.

Anything under $500 w/taxes at that time of year represents excellent value.

Agree 100%.
Last Christmas some friends wanted to fly from US, on 21-24 returning on 3-7 january, the only tickets I could get them were weird routings, like JFK-ATL on 22nd, ATL-MIA-SJU-SDQ on 23rd, returning SDQ-SJU on 6th, SJU-MIA-JFK on the 7th, ticket price 1200 USD. Booking now for christmas on AA, around 500 dollars. Don't buy last minute Christmas tickets to/from DR -- USA/Europe.

......or fly into Santo Domingo. Airlines can and do change prices multiple times daily according to "yield."

You could also fly into Santo Domingo and catch a Metro or Caribe bus north.

Christmas Flights Update

Fares continue to rise for those people contemplating a trip to the D.R. on/after December 15, 2007 and returning on/before January 7, 2008.

However, those of you with the flexibility to leave December 13, 2007 or earlier and return no sooner than January 8, 2008 can find some outstanding buys. One example, AA from Boston to SDQ on 12/13/07 and returning 1/08/08 can be purchased right now for $370 including all taxes. I cannot remember when I have seen numbers that low for a mid December departure. Looks like USAir and Delta have matched that price, but check availability soon as those seats will no doubt sell out fast.

I studied the fares last year....Charters from Calgary, Edmonton, Regina and Saskatoon. Great deals from Calgary and Edmonton until the second week in December then the prices were high.....1200-1400 Canadian until December 26th when I flew for under $500. This year I will go when I can get the deal on airfare. Hopefully one trip for 2 weeks and a couple of quickies!
