The National Institute for Transportation and Traffic (Intrant) is ordering freight trucks, even those with Restricted Areas Permits (ZAR), to stay off the roads during certain times over Christmas and New Year peak holidays.

The Intrant Resolution 013-2024 states that starting on 23 December 2024 at 6am and lasting until 5am on 26 December 2024, all freight vehicles must be off the roads. For the New Year celebrations, the same restrictions apply from Monday, 30 December until Thursday, 2 January 2025.

Some permits for urgent or perishable goods transported by pickup trucks or small vans, ambulances, emergency vehicles, and tank trucks that deliver water. Emergency vehicles, well-marked electricity service, cable, telephone, and other assistance providers will also be eligible for permits to move around during these two periods.
