Yeah, I've been thrown out of much nicer establishments. I have standards.
True story, a few years back while I was working in Portland, Oregon on a tunnel project, a friend & I were thrown out of "The Low Brow Lounge".
Not the 1st bar I was escorted out of but I think it was the last. But I was not allowed to enter D'Latin one night (cheers from all along the North Coast). I went with a very attractive Puerto Rican female friend (late 30s) a few years ago who had come to visit for a week ( I think she wanted to make the locals envious ). Her crime - she dressed "too sexy" - I guess she was showing too much of her recent breast implants (they did look good - just sayin' ladies). Imagine that one - but it made my night - I didn't have to go into that over-price super-loud obnoxious hooker septic tank (it was her silly idea to go anyway) and we retired to a quieter locale to "people watch". Oh and by the way she gave the bouncers that night a first class tongue-lashing, in English and Spanish, as only a Boricua Latina can do. (que cajones) - I loved it.

No real need, most of us who live in, or are often in Sosua, already know he's a dooooosh.

what amazes me is that there are so many people who know that this guy is an armpit, but keep going to his place. Sosua must be really short on entertainment options.

For "The Disco scene", it actually has shrunk, not sure if you are abreast of some of the closures that have occurred with said type bars over the last while?

i am not current with my knowledge of that *night scene. i am old enough to heed my mother?s bromide that nothing good happens on the streets after midnight.

Ad is a first class w@nker. *He threw me and my Dad out of Rancho Tipico one night for not moving tables after the majority of our group left one evening. *Leaving just the two of us at his favorite table. *He came over and set a bottle of rum on the table and said "This table is reserved, you have to move" *I said that we were already here. *He replied, "I know, but now it's reserved and it's my bar. *If you don't like it, fukc off."

So we did without paying our bill.

Went back a few days later and he wasn't so smashed. *Greeted us with a smile and a handshake and apparently no recollection of the previous event.

Ad does seem to have a knack of making an establishment with a party atmosphere though. *It's one of the few places you can have a beer at a reasonable price and watch the girls dancing freely. *I actually like Haitian music from time to time. *It's more upbeat and modern sounding compared to Dominican/Latin music.

A tip for those that frequent. *If you're drinking beer, order grandes. *He gouges his customers on the pequenas, that's where the profit is. *I think there's only around 40 or 50 pesos difference between the two.

I like to stay a breast of the scene. However the closures leave a cleavage in choices, so I go to places looking for some bosom buddies to nurse some beers.

You indeed must be old using a term such as bromide, which according to Wikipedia has several definitions one being:

"Describing a phrase as a "bromide" is meant humorously to imply that it is a verbal sedative, a boring statement with similar soporific properties."
Therefore your mother was applying a verbal sedative to you. My mother opted for the 'switch' -a green whippy unbreakable branch that we had to fetch from the trees in Oklahoma which was like an ISIS torture - I think I would have preferred your mom's bromide !
Don't ask me to define "soporific", but I think it is what occurs around my 4th cuba libre. ( Adios por siempre pend**o Fidel )

actually, my mom was able to multitask. *the bromide was oftentimes accompanied by the whippy unbreakable.

here ya go, chico bill

A bromide is a common saying or proverb that is obvious and not that helpful, like "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade."
Some people love to say things like "Follow your dreams" and "Love takes hard work." Such trite, clich?d sayings are bromides. A bromide isn't very helpful or specific, and people tend to say them over and over again.

Lol, sounds about right with the owner at City Lights.
I have to say when we got shot at in his other bar (Rancho Tipico) he was very nice and bought us drinks :)
It's sosua and those types of places are not high on customer service...
Still haven't made it there will have to stop in soon to see this place.

For me during the last 2-3 years Ranco Tipico and Citylights have been the best Sosua had to offer nights: music, dance, atmosphere. Never had any problems with the owner.

AD or whatever his name is, is a straight up asswipe. Was there a few weeks ago and couldnt find my waitress to pay my bill so he is walking by and I ask him can he send the girl over with the check, He explodes and asks does he look like a waitress!!!! I tell him **** off and got a free night of drinks as I just walked out.
