no actually it is really a breaking news thread... no one is going to change anyone's mind on this. But only one paper actually reported that medical abortions were now decriminalized, which Mr. Guzman confirmed.

At the expense of poor children? Try to remember that you are in the DR and a child in the womb of it's mother is still a child.

I believe that correctly the unborn offspring is a fetus (foetus), not a child. It becomes a child when born.

How ironic that you guys claiming we are beating a dead horse when it is the foreigners who are pressuring Dominicans to change their laws.

Dominicans respect life at birth, so I would respectfully ask that you guys quit bringing up the topic of changing the laws because it is nothing more than "beating a dead" horse.

Chip et al, this is the LEGAL thread. All that should be discussed here is the law and how it pertains to abortions in the DR - not our personal beliefs. Please take everything else to Off Topic!!!

here is the Spanish

- See more at: El Caribe ? Article 30 of the Constitution of 2010 (the DR passes a new constitution every time it amends it, this is done by the legislature)

states

Right to life. The right to life is invioable from conception until deal. It is forbidden to establish, pronounce, or apply, in any case, the death penalty.

With that Constitution in place, before this amendment to the penal code, the Domnican Republic was among 6 countries in the world which prohibited abortions in all cases

The Vatican
Malta
El Salvador
Nicaragua
Chile

Now the DR has the exception of medical necessity.. which puts it more in line with other countries of the world.

I highly doubt they changed the laws b/c foreigners pushed them to do it.

It seems obvious to me that if a woman is going to die or it is very risky for her to be pregnant that she should be allowed to abort the unborn fetus without Dr's or the woman going to Jail for 20 years!

Really? Why don't you educate yourself?

Profamilia is foreign subsidized and the UN promotes abortion rights and homosexual rights as well. Next up the IMF won't be authorizing loans until these are legalized.

The fact is there is a very strong foreign lobby of anti family values that due their best to coerce poor countries into accepting their anti family values. I just wish they would quit beating a dead horse in this matter and leave us alone.
